Primary Objective of Position:
To organize andmanage design engineering resources, systems, processes, and functions:(1) New Product Development (NPD), (2) CustomSolutions, (3) Sustaining Engineering, (4) Engineering Laboratories (Test amp;Evaluation) so as to provide a constant stream of products, technicalspecifications, and documentation which will enable the manufacture, sale,service and continuous improvement of Precision Fluid Control (PFC), AGIproduct lines to meet the needs and expectations of customers.
Major Areas of Accountability:
Manage Train and Provide Leadership - Lead and manage by facilitating ateam based approach, open communication, involvement, development of trainingrequirements and continuous improvement.Provides feedback on individual performance and assists the functionaldesign groups and people in setting and achieving challenging goals.
TechnicalAssistance - Ensurethat department personnel provide technical assistance with respect to productdesign, application, and service to other departments, customers andsuppliers.This assistance includestimely communication of new releases and changes to engineering documentationas well as daily interface with "product teams" and as neededsupport.Provide technical assistancefor customers by encouraging and promoting active, direct involvement with ourengineers.
ManageDepartment - Prepareand manage to establish Key Initiatives, plans and operating budget.Develop and monitor key measures whichprovide performance feedback relative to the achievement of Key Initiatives anddepartment effectiveness.
GlobalTeamwork –Activelypromotes a cross functional international approach to design work.Works with other sites to ensures that designresources are assigned, prioritized, and utilized on a global basis based onthe scope and return of the project.Assigns senior experienced engineers to serve as mentors with juniorengineers in other world areas.Ensurestraining, required skill development, and understanding of key pressure controltechnologies are transferred to all world area engineering sites.
Manage Engineering Processes - Ensure that process (e.g.,engineering drawings, bills of material, specifications, etc.) outputs meet allknown safety, design, and quality requirements defined by customers and PFCsquality management system (e.g., ISO 9001, etc.).Works with other Site Engineering Managersand the Director of Engineering to ensure harmonization and standardization ofdesign engineering systems, processes, and documentation.Supports development, maintenance, andcontrol of a Global Design Manual and supporting training materials to ensureglobal consistency in PFCs design approach and practices.
Manage New Product Development (NPD) andCustom Solutions -Ensures that resources, systems, and processes are in place to maintain aconstant stream of new and custom products for identified markets andcustomers.Maintains awareness of schedules,project key drivers, monitors progress, removes roadblocks, and helps resolveconflicts to effectively meet project completion objectives established bydivision management.Innovation ispromoted and assured through seeking patents on new designs. In addition, the impact of product developmenton the business is measured and reported in conjunction with Marketing andSales.
Manage Sustaining Engineering – Ensures that resources, systems, andprocesses are in place to maintain and improve existing products based oncustomer and manufacturing feedback and data.Pursues product improvement projects as directed by Marketing,Operations, and/or Quality.Providessupport to Operations as required to maintain viability of current productlines.
Manage Design Support Functions (ModelShop amp; Engineering Laboratories)– Ensure that design systems, processes, equipment, and facilities are in placeto support safe rapid development, verification, and validation of new designsas well as improvements to existing designs.Ensure that resources are available to support (1) new productdevelopment, (2) custom solutions, and (3) Sustaining Engineering. Coordinatesresources and their utilization on a global basis ensuring proper deploymentand efficiency of available capacity.
Validation Process - Manage processes that measure productperformance, assure ongoing safety, and continuous improvement.These processes include Assembly/Test,Repair, and Laboratory observations and feedback.Data from these sources is used to examineand improve products and processes.Ensures that cross functional design review are conducted with otherworld engineering sites to facilitate transfer of design skills and to ensuredesign oversight.
Continuing Education - Preserve professional and technicalcompetence by pursuing related continuing education.
