Our client is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to join their ream in Bingen, WA.
Responsibilities of the Engineering Supervisor
Accomplishes manufacturing staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
Lead all activities to assure the on time, high quality, efficient production of assigned customer products.
Plans and directs the assembly, test, inspection, material handling and documentation in the production of completed assemblies in compliance with the QMS documentation set.
Be responsible for all phases of assigned customer products: prototypes, first articles, first production runs, on-going production builds, quality control and customer RMA’s.
Liaise with Sales and Account Manager to support communications with customers for assigned customer products.
Assure proper documentation, procedures, tools, equipment and trained personnel are utilized to ensure conformance to customer requirements and requirements of the quality system.
A manufacturing environment where temperature variations exist from opening doors to the outside environment, smoke particulates from soldering and other manufacturing operations frequently occur and noise levels that occasionally require hearing protection.
Lead a diverse employee group in a respectful and professional way, adhering to the company policy of mutual respect and equal opportunity for all.
Prepare and deliver periodic performance reviews of assemblers in the work group.
Ensure that all policies outlined in the Handbook are understood and enforced within the work group.
Lead the production planning and coordination between Material Control and Supply Chain to ensure that adequate resources are available to meet production build schedules in a timely and efficient manner. Monitor daily work load. Advise CEO as soon as possible if due dates will not be met.
Monitor and verify the quality of work produced by all members of the work group, insuring that customer specifications are met.
Oversee corrective and preventative actions for any discrepant assemblies identified within the assembly/inspection/test process, or QC process or customer RMA process.
Cooperate and comply with requests for expedited assemblies and associated overtime. Coordinate to assure adequate resources are available or escalate for additional management support if needed.
New Product Builds and Revisions
Coordinate with Sales to understand Customer Requirements and oversee team members to develop and maintain procedures, training and tools as required to meet customer requirements.
Coordinate work with team members and Sales to assure quotations accurately include required labor for assembly, test and inspection.
Responsible for First Article builds in that they properly reflect customer’s expectations and required documentation and all necessary efforts are made to ensure acceptance.
Train personnel assigned to work group so that productivity and quality targets are met.
Assure all of the duties and responsibilities performed in the cable/wire harness fabrication process shall adhere to the specifications outlined in IPC/WHMA-A-620 standard.
Research items online and be able to integrate the information gathered.
Assure team is compliant with all record and reporting requirements.
Establish and maintain methods that are appropriate for the team to make team performance highly visible, transparent and understood to all team members and other stakeholders.
Interact with the MRP system to monitor, analyze and control the flow of work through the team.
Team members, Leadership and Customers are satisfied with the response, support and professional treatment they receive.
Company information is kept confidential.
All duties preformed in an independent and expeditious manner with minimal supervision and in compliance with company procedures.
All reports and paperwork are completed on or before due dates.
Attendance and punctuality is within established guidelines.
Be a Safety advocate. Ensure employees wear Personal Protective Equipment when required.
Read and share the monthly safety notes to work group and participate in the company Safety Program.
Understand what SDS is about, where to locate this information, what the icons mean on the labels and how to use the SDS.
Work with Sales to assure quotations correctly identify all labor requirements and provide feedback to Sales when build times are routinely not meeting the quoted levels.
Monitor and ensure that all assembles being worked on by their team meet quality standards.
Audit the BOM and identify any incorrect entries or needed adjustments.
Request assistance from other departments as needed to resolve problems.
Maintain quality and workmanship logs and records.
Support Management team as beneficial or needed.
Provide skills training to assigned team members. Adjust assignments and workload to meet business needs and consistent with team member’s skills, experience and development objectives.
Assure team members receive feedback as pertains to the quality and efficiency of their work.
Recommend and provide justification for the purchase of tools and equipment to improve team performance and capabilities in support of assigned customer products.
Alert the CEO if they feel there is a situation that needs escalated attention or support.
Qualifications of the Engineering Supervisor
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is highly preferred.
On the job and past experience in manufacturing engineering and/or production supervisor roles may be substituted for educational requirements.
A minimum of 5 years’ Management experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience in assembly of cables and mechanical assembly (eg, assembly of carbon sub-systems) preferred.
Successful Project Management experience highly sought after.
Experience working in an AS9100 quality standard system environment or other quality standard system preferred.
Ability to work cross-functionally (eg, Sales, Customer Support, Scheduling, Finance, Material Control, Purchasing) and develop cooperative cross-departmental processes that improve overall performance in the eyes of assigned customers.
Demonstrate leadership skills in every day interactions and have ability to work with domain experts to assure the following skills, knowledge and abilities are adequately present within the Customer Focused Read schematic drawings and interpret critical specifications.
Use of proper tools and equipment to test and inspect products (eg, calipers, test equipment, microscopes).
Proper use of hand, pneumatic and electrical power tools for product assembly
Assembly skills such as machine and hand terminating, wire and cable prep, hand soldering, electro-mechanical assembly.
Prepare and update work instructions (assembly, test, inspection).
Manage customer returns (repair/rework) and create required documentation to support RMA’s and NCMR’s.
Proper use of MRP and other computer applications as needed to coordinate team performance and create and maintain proper records.
Exhibit basic math skills to convert fractions to decimals in both the Metric and U.S. Standard scales, convert mm to inches, calculate tolerances based on drawing specifications.
Ability to follow complex verbal and written directions.
