The EPIC Analyst III is a senior-level position responsible for providing highly specialized support to all clinical staff roles throughout the care continuum (as assigned). He or she will coordinate and monitor the analysis, design, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of clinical informatics applications and projects within the assigned area(s) as well as coordinate and provide direct support and education to clinicians (physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members) in their use of Health System technology including the electronic health record (EHR). This position also provides in-depth and sophisticated analyses with interpretive thinking to define problems, develop innovative solutions and influence strategic functional decisions. The position will have a good understanding of Epic modules, ancillary systems, and health system operations.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop and coordinate communication about future EHR changes, upgrades, and downtimes to clinical customers; develop and perform competency assessments related to clinician use of information systems, documents findings; designs and delivers targeted training and remediation as necessary and evaluates effectiveness of interventions.Synthesize data, information, and knowledge to clarify informatics issues or problems; analyze multiple approaches/solutions to the informatics issue or problem, develop a recommended informatics solution for the specific issue or problem, and manage the process for implementing the solution to the informatics issue or problem.Identify analyze, prioritize, redesign, test, and implement improvements to existing clinical information systems; lead root cause analysis efforts related to clinical information systems.Develop methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining clinical information system performance improvement results; consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, costs, and impact to patient care when problem-solving.Act as second level of support and triage system problems within department's workflow, policies and procedures.Provide tier-2 support of application incidents reported through help desk; including on call coverage as required. Assist in implementation of medium complexity tools and workflows.Collaborate with other members of IT team in managing the resolution of problems and implementation of changes to IT systems. Provide analytical assistance to junior team members to resolve application incidents, maintenance items, and enhancement requests.Perform daily monitoring of applications in production use.Coordinate application support with other IT teams including Infrastructure, Integration, Reporting, and help desk.Handle software upgrade initiatives or enhancements to workflows including design, build, and test.Modify tables/master files; make additions and changes under the direction of senior team members.Implement changes using documented procedures that are compliant with policies and procedures.Take ownership of low to medium complexity issues and act as a liaison between users and other support staff to facilitate resolution.Assist senior team members in developing and maintaining requirements/specifications and test cases for new or enhanced functionality to applications.Participate in team and cross-team meetings and maintain appropriate meeting records.Diagnose and resolve technology problems.Maintain up-to-date project documents for all initiatives that include technical details, user expectations, project goals, work effort, accountability, and deliverablesIdentify system optimization and enhancements and collaborate with vendors and other ITS analysts in order to design and implement effective solutionsCoordinates day-to-day staff activities, which may include resource management, work allocation, mentoring/coaching, etc.Develop and implement best practices-based QA processesManage and maintain metrics to improve implementation, team’s productivity and efficacyCollaborate and build consensus with stakeholders.Other duties and functions as assigned
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in nursing, other clinical discipline, information technology/informatics, business, management, communications, etc. is required or equivalent years of experienceMinimum of 6 years of experience in a position that had the same or similar primary duties in a healthcare setting, which should include database and data analysis technology, as well as project management toolsMinimum of 4 years of experience supporting clinical Operations and/or systems experience required, such as billing, patient flow, scheduling, access services, health information management or other support functions in a healthcare organizationA minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership position or coordinating efforts and mentoring more junior staff membersExperience with Microsoft SQL 2000 or 2005 and use of data warehousing/design tools such as Cognos, Crystal Reports, Visio and Microsoft Access is highly preferredExperience with project management for data gathering, analyzing and defining business and functional requirements.Active license or certification to practice as a clinician is a plus (MD, RN, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Dietitian, Clinical Social Worker, Respiratory Therapist, etc.)EPIC certification required
