LICENSE: K-12 or 7-12 TESL Endorsement, and 7-12 English Endorsement required.

Must possess a Nevada license endorsed for the specific subject(s) and to perform other educational functions at the level and in the field for which he/she is to be employed, issued in accordance with law and in full force at the time the services are rendered. Teach related curriculum and related programs for ELL students in public schools by performing the following duties. The teacher will implement into daily student instruction appropriate educational curriculum based on the Nevada State Standards and the Carson School District expectations. The teacher will create and maintain an educational atmosphere that encourages effective student learning and supports school and district programs and goals. This person will be expected to adhere to the Carson School District Framework for Effective Teaching.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This list of Essential Duties and Responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.
- Administer appropriate district curriculum, which is aligned with the Nevada State Standards.
- Follows mandated compliance standards established by the Federal, the State, or the District regulations relative to ESL program development and implementation.
- Demonstrates mastery of content and pedagogy (ESL), knowledge of students and resources, sets instructional outcomes for diverse learners, and designs coherent instruction and student assessments aligned to Common Core State Standards and WIDA.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives, in order to meet the needs of English Language Learners.
- Tracks progress of identified LEP students.
- Implements effective staff development related to language acquisition.
- Coordinates and administers the English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) as required by the district and state.
- Maintains, interprets, and appropriately distributes results of the ELPA and other assessments as required by the district and state.
- Ensures that parents of LEP students are given the opportunity to fully participate in their student’s education.
- Assists parents of LEP students with school registration, parent conferences, and home learning skills.
- Communicates to parents via phone calls, meetings, and correspondence, translating into the parent’s primary language when possible.
- Informs parents of LEP students of the following:
- Reason(s) for placing their student in LEP language instruction program.
- Student’s level of English proficiency.
- Methods of instruction to be used in the program.
- How the program will meet educational strengths and needs of the student.
- How the program will help the student learn English and meet academic standards.
- The program exit requirement, ie. Expected transition rate and expected rate of graduation from secondary school.
- How the program will meet the objectives of an individualized educational program for a student with a disability.
- Develops and updates a written description of parental rights describing the following:
- Removal of the student from the language instruction educational program upon their request
- Parental options to reject enrollment of their student in ESL instruction.
- Offer of assistance to parents in selecting among various programs and methods of instruction if more than one program or method is offered.
- Provides evaluation and testing for non-English speaking and limited proficiency students.
- Provides instruction to each ESL/LEP student appropriate to his/her level as determined by formal assessment.
- Maintains records for each student’s individual and academic instructional program.
- Provides referral to existing guidance and counseling as well as other support resources within the district where appropriate.
- Provides assessment for newly arriving non-English speaking students.
- Confers with classroom teachers regarding each student’s progress within the ESL Program.
- Participates in in-service and teacher training provided by the district.
- Meets with the ESL Director at regular intervals.
- Assigns grades to ESL students.
- Provides support and resource information to ESL ParaProfessionals and classroom teachers.
- Assists in project implementation.
- Ensure the opportunity for all students to learn in a supportive environment.
- Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused learning condition in the instructional environment.
- Develop and implement the components of an effective lesson for instruction.
- Analyze student progress and provide appropriate instruction.
- Provide a classroom management/discipline plan ensuring safety at all times.
- Ensure assessment regulations and guidelines are followed at all times.
- Develop a classroom climate that promotes positive learning conditions.
- Work professionally with administration, staff, parents, and community.
- Integrate technology into the instructional program.

- Instruct students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations.
- Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.

- Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as handbooks and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students and staff.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
