SCOPE: Is responsible for designing, defining and implementation system requirement fro complex customer systems and/or preparing studies and analyzing existing systems. Provides strategic technical direction. May manage the efforts of other Software Design Engineers to ensure system performance requirements are met. Oversees the preparation, presentation and follow-up of major projects.
Establishes operational objectives and assignments and may delegate assignments to subordinate staff.
Objectives are reviewed by senior management to determine success of operation.
Establishes and recommends changes to policies or processes that affect organization.
PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Works on extremely complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires the ability to reach beyond the existing variables to find new solutions. Exercises independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Key resource for finding solutions to project problems that could derail the project. IMPACT: Contributions are usually limited to assignment related activities. Decisions or failure to achieve results may derail project and client relationship leading to significant even irreparable long term business/schedule impact.

FREEDOM TO ACT: May manage large teams of multi-disciplinary personnel to ensure congruence of the various hardware, software, and communications approaches. Coordinates the activities of a section or department with responsibility for results. May be responsible for the technical direction, leadership, and training of less experienced staff. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Technical mastery is evident. Knowledge and experience in the field prepares someone at this level to be able to handle seldom and unusual occurring job events. Knowledge of assigned product(s), company functions, service policies and procedures and good communication skills. Proficiency in computer applications, languages, technologies, advanced set-up and configurations, trouble shooting, and system design, and/or capabilities required for the position.
TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in related field and 10+ years related experience, of which at least seven must be specialized. Advanced degree in related technical field desired.
