News 12 Networks is looking for a Freelance Video Engineer to support linear and digital production facilities with broadcast and network system design, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response as needed. The ideal candidate in this role will be responsible for; overseesing, maintaining and proactively improving engineering systems within assigned areas of the facility, including emerging technologies, developing plans for new systems or redesigning existing systems as assigned. Working with other engineers to achieve a continual reduction of operational costs including video transport, network connectivity, data acquisition and management, and graphics production. The Engineer position will maintain ongoing relationships with linear and ITV content production staff, other engineers in shared facilities, Head-end engineers, network transport engineers, and key vendors to ensure stability of vital systems. Research potential purchases of equipment and services as needed. Design and develop custom databases, applications or control systems as assigned. Write technical and operational procedures for assigned areas. Implement new policies and procedures as directed. Oversee repair and maintenance of assigned systems. Ensure inventory records are current and accurate. Represent News 12 services in a courteous and professional manner. Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
• Four year BA/BS college degree. Additional technical schooling and/or vendor training helpful.• Five or more years as a broadcast or cable television engineer, preferably within an interactive television environment.• Prior experience in the design, development and maintenance of interactive television systems.• Prior experience implementing and maintaining information technology systems.• Strong technical proficiency with all types of studio production, editing, ENG, MCR and routing equipment. Knowledge of the latest technical trends with respect to these systems• Engineering systems design with thorough understanding of the uses and capabilities of CAD programs.• Thorough understanding of the engineering, content and business goals of both analog and ITV.• Strong technical proficiency with PC’s Mac’s, MS Office, Windows, email, Unix, Linux, DOS, WIN2K, and enterprise level database and server platforms.• Thorough knowledge of the Internet, and familiarity with digital routers, TCP/IP, HTML and web-base content management applications• Thorough knowledge of broadcast automation, digital video transport, and remote camera control systems.• Full capability for hands-on bench-work for equipment design and maintenance.• Flexible schedule with ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
