The Graphic Artist provides support to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Knowledge Management Support Services (KMSS). This position designs marketing materials, posters, logos, displays, presentations, charts, brochures, publications, web graphics and other marketing materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reviews existing materials and makes recommendations to update or improve these materials. Explores new and innovative ways to design and format marketing materials.
Illustrates all articles with custom lead and secondary images. Recreates all supporting charts and graphs to fit within the required standards of style and color.
Creates support and marketing print graphics including all elements of design and production of marketing materials, posters, logos, displays, presentations, charts, brochures, publications, web graphics and other marketing materials.
Designs logos and branding for events and conferences.
Trains staff to work with animated PowerPoint presentations.
Creates web-ready graphics for use in the intranet, such as banners, buttons, and compliant pdf files.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or a related field of study and three (3) years’ of experience; or equivalent combination of education / experience. Experience in publication design, desktop publishing, or graphics designs. Experienced in using standard office software (Microsoft Word) and with graphic related software such as
Adobe Creative Suite for Windows, Macromedia Flash and Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Extensive knowledge of the principles of graphic design in order to produce the highest level of production for print, on-line publishing, and multimedia, etc.
Knowledgeable in color illustration in order to create custom designs
Knowledge of graphic design software applications (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite for Windows, Macromedia Flash and Macromedia Dreamweaver etc.) in order to produce multi-media, digital imaging and on line publishing projects
Extensive knowledge of the elements of design (i.e., line, shape, texture, space, size, value, and color, balance/symmetry, rhythm/repetition, emphasis, unity, movement, proportion/scale; page layout, color theory, and typography) in order to produce or edit a high quality print or multimedia product
Basic knowledge of the procedures for creating traditional and/or electronic files for output for single and multicolor publications
Skilled in time management in order to multi-task and meet production deadlines
Skilled in team-building techniques and principles in order to maintain organize team participation and meet production deadlines
Skilled in digitally retouching images in order to enhance or soften photographs and/or graphics
Ability to work with a diverse clientele while producing quality products
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to learn and apply new software in order to maintain cutting edge technology
Ability to maintain project files for ease of access for updates and changes
Ability to review narrative material in order to create appropriate illustrations

Ability to troubleshoot within the graphics application software in order to minimize downtime

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
