Description: The Health Manager is a key member of the Head Start Management Team guiding the program to provide early childhood health services and education to the children and families we serve. Monitors and implements comprehensive health, dental, environmental safety and nutrition programs for children and their families. Works with families to provide education on the importance of Well Child Check Ups and preventative practices. The EASTCONN programs are committed to high quality early childhood programming, including highly qualified teachers and home visitors, ongoing professional development, small class size, a low child-to-staff ratio, a broad socioeconomic mix of children, and parent engagement in their children’s learning.
Serves as nurse consultant for all sites in the Northeast per Office of Early Childhood licensing requirments.
Monitors the ongoing health status and needs of enrolled children by ensuring completion of health checks, incident reports, administering of medications, and other procedures.
Identifies health, dental, emergency and nutrition service resources within the community; ensures all these services are communicated with Family Advocates.
Monitors that all enrolled children are up-to-date on a schedule of age appropriate preventive and primary health care.
Works collaboratively with Family Advocates and families to arrange any needed medical, dental, or nutritional examinations and immunizations.
Monitors that children have medical and dental homes, while working to ensure families are educated on why that is important.
Develops written health, environmental safety, sanitation, emergency policies and procedures ensuring compliance with local and state regulations, with appropriate participation and approval. Ensures these policies and procedures are carried out including scheduling required drills, conducting required safety checks and monitoring all other provisions.
Facilitates trainings for staff and families related to the following topics (but not limited to): Medication Administration/epi pen training, Health Policies and Procedures, Safe Sleep, Shaken Baby and Head Trauma.
Oversees the EASTCONN Head Start Health Services Advisory Committee.
Maintains detailed, accurate, up-to-date and confidential records including: child health files, health services tracking system and documentation of all activities; develops and submits timely reports of component service provision and activities as required.
Maintain a relationship with local Health Departments, Community Health Centers, Health Plans and other agencies to develop partnerships, provide resources for families and associates, and participate in family orientations, health screenings, and professional development trainings.
Facilitate the planning of health screenings at all locations: work with centers on logistics and work with community providers to provide screenings and resources to families.
Attends and participates in trainings, in-service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities; keeps abreast of current health and nutrition industry best practices.
Participates in the annual program self-evaluation and grantee monitoring, and complies with the program improvement plans developed. Contributes to the development of ongoing program improvement, program proposals and Community Assessment, as requested.
Oversee and coordinate services provided by contracted nurse consultant within contracted Windham Head Start program.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related field from an accredited college or university. Current Registered Nurse (RN). Three years’ experience in related area that includes one year experience in nursing or healthcare and nutrition, preferably in the field of pediatrics. Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions. Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment. Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality. Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient. Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software. Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and have access to reliable, insured transportation.
