Refrigeration Technician Duties and Responsibilities As a Refrigeration Technician you must be able to complete various tasks pertaining to the operation of any refrigeration system. To be successful in this position you must possess strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. You should have the ability to work both independently and in teams as needed. communication is a must, as are basic computer skills. Install New Refrigeration Systems ? Must be able to install climate-control systems. ? Must be knowledgeable about all components of these systems, and schematics. ? Must understand compliance standards, know local building codes and apply brazing and soldering techniques as required. Repair and Upgrade Refrigeration Systems ? Must be able to diagnose problems and make repairs to existing equipment the first time. ? Must be able to apply troubleshooting methods, replace failed parts, and run tests to ensure the systems is working properly following repairs. ? Must be able to upgrade systems to satisfy new regulations or meet new standards. Maintain Existing Refrigeration Systems ? Must be able to Perform preventative maintenance on refrigeration systems and be able to identify potential issues. This entails following a sequence of operations that need to be checked during a routine inspection of existing equipment, such as compressors, condensers, electrical connections. Internal and external controls, and motor operations. Refrigeration Technician Skills ? Must have an EPA certification ? Must understand the operations of commercial refrigeration systems, and the refrigeration circuit. ? Must be able to diagnose malfunctions and defects in equipment and Controls. ? Must be able read electrical and electronic schematics. ? Must be able Grasp electrical concepts and operations. ? Must be able understand operating tools, gauges and other testing equipment for refrigeration systems. ? Must understand Superheat & Subcooling, and how they affect the system. ? Must able to use standard Brazing practices, evacuation practices, and Installation practices. ? Must do quality work, and understand straight, level, and plumb.
