Job Title: Information Services Analyst - Developer

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The Programmer Analyst is responsible for designing, coding, developing and maintaining database programs, middleware solutions and reports for mission critical applications including but not limited to student records management and business operations. The Programmer Analyst will also develop data and report requirements with district and school administrators, teachers, and other users; designing, modifying, maintaining, and documenting user reports generated from the student records and business databases. Working closely with the districts Database Administrators to design, modify, and maintain processes necessary for the integration of district databases with various 3rd party vendors and entities. This position will create and maintain custom reports, create and maintain custom web applications, perform and or assist with business application installations and/or upgrades, analyze business practices and make automation recommendations and research, recommend and guide technological implementations of core district systems.

- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
- Acts as a backup to the database administrators to monitor various SQL servers using a variety of tools to ensure optimum system performance, respond to and correct issues that have a negative impact on system performance.
- Develops and prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. standards and procedures, training curricula, audit procedures, database structures/objects, 3rd party integration, etc.) for the purpose of documenting procedures and required actions, providing written support and/or conveying information to others, both within and outside the department.
- Create, modify, maintain, and document user reports.
- Keep abreast of the latest technological advances in Information Technology so as to evaluate, recommend, and implement new software and hardware solutions including but not limited to district adopted integration framework and Data Warehouse solution.
- Perform regular reviews of various logs to determine potential problems, trends and ensure system health is properly maintained.
- Ensure security and confidentiality of data and critical systems on the network.
- Create, modify, or implement student records and business operations databases and related tracking and reporting programs.
- Create, modify and maintain business workflow models and web forms.
- Performs all database backups and restores for production to test/development platforms.
- Aid in planning, beta testing and implementation of new software applications, upgrades and new software solution implementations.
- Interact with various teams within operational departments to support student records management and business operations.
- Interact and communicate on a technical level with contacts from various external vendors for the purpose of developing and maintaining data integration/synchronization systems
- Integrates databases from existing data sources for the purpose of meeting access and reporting needs defined by district and school site staff.
- Maintains development, test, production, report and testing environments for appropriate systems, including data synchronization between environments for the purpose of ensuring the integrity of database applications. This will be accomplished through, among other things, the design and implementation of database maintenance plans.
- Create, modify and maintain custom programming solutions for creating internal business efficiencies and growth.
- Create, modify, document and maintain system integration with district 3rd party applications to ensure streamlined data integration.
- Serves as a backup to the database administrators to perform database restores, rollbacks and recovery processes for the purpose of coordinating with appropriate operations and programming personnel. This involves routinely restoring production database backups into various test/development databases for the use by support personnel and users.
- Utilizing provided student and financial system tools, design import routines and data import interfaces with the purpose of importing data into various systems. This can involve heavy manipulation of data file format and structure. Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Excel and/or other data manipulation tools are required.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or computer-related field preferred or equivalent technical training and/or work experience.
- Minimum of 2 years practical experience in a similar programmer analyst position is desired. Should also have two years of combined programming experience, in both SQL and any .NET language.
- Minimum of 2 years advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Preferred experience with programming within a .NET framework using both C# and VB.
- Strong background in the following programming environments including but not limited to: C#, VB, SQL Development, XML, XSL, HTML, CSS.
- Must have experience creating Stored Procedures and SQL Views.
- Demonstrated competencies should include development/support of Relational databases; query optimization; systems analysis; and troubleshooting program and system problems, and performance issues.
- Candidates should have functional and administrative knowledge of Windows operating systems. Familiarity with Powershell is a plus.
- Must have a working knowledge of SQL Server and SQL Server agent, security, integration services and system administration. Knowledge of server Task Scheduler or VisualCron is a plus.
- Experience with Postgres SQL a plus.
- Must have a working knowledge of ETL tools; visual studio preferred.
- Must work well with end-users to determine needed requirements, respond to questions and issues, and promote a high degree of customer satisfaction.
- Must be comfortable with training adults in technology tools and concepts.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Length of work: 12 months.
