The Instrument and Laboratory Support Manager will support teaching of General Chemistry and advanced Chemistry laboratory sections and to support and maintain Department of Chemistry instrumentation used in both teaching and research. The manager will also work directly with students when necessary helping them understand and complete experiments and laboratory reports.

Must have knowledge with using, and maintaining with using, and maintaining chemistry instrumentation such as NMR, IR, MS\GC, GC, HPLC, ICP, and UV/VIS. Must have at least a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or B.S. in Chemistry; Training or equivalent experience in electronic and mechanical trouble shooting and repair. We prefer Master’s degree (M. A.) in Chemistry (or related field) or Biochemistry or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential duties are to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair or oversee repair of all Department of Chemistry instrumentation, oversee work-study students assigned to instrument maintenance and repair, provide laboratory support and preparation for Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry I, Advanced Chemistry Laboratory Fall and Spring. Laboratory preparation includes but is not limited to preparing chemicals, solutions, equipment and instrumentation; providing assistance with modifying, refining and updating experiments; helping write and distribute lab manuals; setting up and tearing down for each laboratory section; and ordering and securing all necessary supplies. When needed, assist with the support of General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, and Inorganic Chemistry laboratories, oversee work-study students assisting with Chemistry laboratory preparation, be present during laboratory course meetings to assist students and professors, assist students in understanding and writing up lab reports, assist students with the sample preparation for instrumental analysis, assist students with running and troubleshooting instruments, laboratory equipment, computers and Vernier LabPro interfaces, test, troubleshoot, and modify new experiments before they are introduced into the curriculum, and attend departmental meetings.
