Instrument Technician I receive, cleans, and processes instruments, equipment, and reusable supplies for the hospital and clinics. They ensure that all items are free of any bio burden and neatly assemble them for use. They ensure that all instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterilized per manufacturer's recommendations for use as required. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Clean equipment, instruments, supplies, reusable equipment per manufacturer's recommendation and/or hospital policy. Pre-soak equipment, instruments and supplies with enzymatic solution. Disassemble all removable components of instruments, supplies and equipment for cleaning process. Clean items with hospital-approved detergent (manual or mechanical). Disinfect items as required by either chemical or thermal disinfection.Prepare equipment, instruments, supplies for use, including assembling, labeling and preparing for sterilization. Equipment is assembled and/or disassembled for use such as cords rolled neatly and/or pumps separated into components. Ensure equipment is bagged or marked per hospital policy as clean. Clean items are placed in paper-plastic pouches, containers or linen wrappers with chemical indicator for sterilization as required. Count sheets will be placed with items as required prior to sterilization. Items are labeled with a lot control identifier, description and expiration date.Coordinates with various departments for distribution, receiving and handling of equipment, instruments and supplies. Follows policy for transporting clean/soiled itemsSterilized equipment, instruments, supplies are loaded on carts neatly to allow sterilant to come into contact with all surfaces. Manufacturer's recommendations should be followed for sterilization parameters.Navigate and utilize appropriate supply chain software to create and maintain count sheets, monitor case load and maintain appropriate inventory levels.Maintain accurate sterilization records. Records should be retained per hospital records retention policy. Collect and retain lot numbers, load contents and quantity, exposure time and temperature, names or initials of operator, biological testing results, bowie-deck testing results, responses of chemical indicators placed in challenge test packs, reports of inconclusive or nonresponsive chemical indicators and any sterilizer printer tape.Ensure instruments, equipment and supplies are in good repair. Inspect and replace damaged or broken items. Maintain repair process with contracted vendor.

Education: High School Diploma or GEDCertifications: Up to 18 months from hire date to obtain certification from IAHCSMM - (CRCST) Certified Registered Central Service TechnicianPreferred Certifications: Have (CRCST) Certified Registered Central Service Technician or (CIS) Certified Instrument Specialist through the IAHCSMM (International Assoc. of Healthcare Central Sterile Material Management.
