The Insurance Collector is responsible for the working with the Coder to enter procedure and diagnostic coding of all Center cases and the submission of hard and electronic claims. The Insurance Collector is responsible for assisting the Business Office Manager in maintaining the Accounts Receivable at an acceptable range (as mandated by the Business Office Policies and Procedures). The Insurance Collector will manage the center's Accounts Receivables by performing all aspects of collection activities to resolve insurance balances, including calling for claims status, appeals processes, reviewing and analyzing accounts to ensure accuracy of patient liability. The Insurance Collector will be cross-trained in other functions of the business office and reports directly to the Business Office Manager.
High school graduate or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years billing and collection experience with local payer market, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center, business office of an acute care hospital or medical office.
Experience in record keeping.
Minimum of 3 years experience using a medical software system
Must be able to work under pressure
Possesses excellent communication skills
Competence in oral and written skills
Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner
Must possess the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to perform accurate arithmetical functions.
Understanding of company products, services and customers
Ability to handle patient account inquiries in a timely and courteous manner.
General understanding of the healthcare environmen
Demonstrated ability to type 45 wpm
Knowledge of alpha filing system
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to be cross-trained in other areas of the business office.
Ability to perform accurate arithmetical functions involving whole numbers and percentages.
