SALARY: $ 54,728.00 per year
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate plus one (1) year of experience providing interpreting services in a court setting. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted which provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills. Knowledge of the specialized vocabulary used in the judicial environment. Knowledge of the types of judicial proceedings including arraignments, trials, plea bargains, motions, petitions, and probation violations and sentencing. Ability to interpret in simultaneous, consecutive and sight-translation modes. Required language in Spanish. The skill level of the language(s) must include slang, vulgarities and normal idioms. Must be licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations as a Licensed Court Interpreter. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This is a responsible nonsupervisory position. Duties include accurate translation of word meanings from English or Spanish and/or from Spanish
to English in simultaneous, consecutive, and sign translation in courtroom proceedings. Provides sight translation of both familiar and unfamiliar correspondence, written communications such as letters, indictments, contracts, letters from prisoners to the judges and documents such as birth certificates, personal letters and identity documents in the target language presented in court. Performs other duties as assigned by a Judge. This is not a Civil Service covered position.
