Job Announcement –Lead Cook:
Under the supervision of the Kitchen supervisor, the Lead Cook supervises the food service staff engaged in preparing, cooking, packaging and delivering of meals to preschool and day care centers. The Lead Cook is responsible for maintaining the kitchen, food preparation and delivery following health and safety standards, the timeliness and quality of food, and for ensuring all staff follow safety policy and procedures of IILA and the Nutrition Program.
Within a teamwork environment, the essential functions of the job include the following responsibilities:
Responsible for maintaining safe food handling and sanitation practices regarding food handling, storage & preparation.
Assists the Kitchen Supervisor with ordering food & supplies, and responsible for their proper storage and use.
Receives all orders and verifies quality and accuracy of the quantity.
Train and supervise staff in appropriate kitchen and food preparation procedures.
Assists in the planning of menus and the development of kid friendly menus and recipes.
Keeps daily record of food portions served, inventories, hours worked & other required documentation.
May perform preparation aide duties including washing, peeling, cutting & packaging food items
Accountable for ensuring food is measured correctly and cooked appropriately.
Will disseminate program nutritional information to clients and run the operation in the absence of the Kitchen Supervisor.
Handle catering for events held on site.
Back-up Kitchen Supervisor with daily transportation logs.
Attends scheduled trainings & staff meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must have a valid ServSafe Food Protection Managers Certificate and prior management experience.
Must have a high school diploma or GED.
Must have minimum three years working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.
Must have a valid California Driver’s License, a clean DMV printout and proof of current automobile insurance.
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Perform daily physical activities that require standing or walking most of the work shift with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting and reaching.
Activities also require considerable use of arms and legs, such as in the physical handling of materials including lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
The starting salary range for the Lead Cook is $14.00-18.00/hour DOE.
