The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a total quality client/family advocate that provides care in a multidisciplinary method under the direction of a registered nurse. The LPN is responsible for direct client care that includes a holistic approach to the care of the child and family. This includes educational, psychosocial, behavioral, physical, mental and emotional care needs of the child. The RN Case Manager and physician determine these needs. The nurse will educate the client and family regarding immediate care advice and preventative behaviors.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Provides exceptional customer service and quality care:
a. Seeks to provide professional and courteous service to the children and their families. b. Participates in a team effort to fulfill goals and work requirements.
c. Maintains confidentiality in all situations and interactions.
d. Works as a team player and works effectively with direction and supervision.
e. Follows the chain of command with questions and concerns.
2. Conducts sound nursing observations and utilizes appropriate established guidelines:
a. Demonstrates the ability to utilize and apply nursing process in a child care setting within the guidelines of the
Nurse Practice Act.
b. Utilizes the appropriate guidelines and information based on the age of the child to foster independence and
c. Provides individualized, quality care in a safe environment. d. Refers inquiries to the appropriate resource.
e. Performs multiple tasks prioritizing appropriately.
f. Flexible in changes that occur throughout the day including staffing, children, employees and nursing care.
g. Handles emergent situations while remaining calm.
h. Reports emergencies immediately to the RN Case Manager.
3. Documents appropriate information in a timely manner:
a. Performs chart documentation at the time care/direction is given. b. Utilizes proper procedure for all care/direction.
c. Documents accurate and complete demographic assessment information on all children. d. Uses date, time signature and title entries appropriately on all documentation.
4. Maintains the following nursing responsibilities:
a. Provides individualized care to children as directed by the RN Case Manager and physician according to the plan of treatment and care plan.
b. Reports changes in condition of the child to the RN Case Manager ensuring that documentation is accurate and
appropriately done in a timely manner.
c. Performs direct client care as described by performance of and assistance with personal care activities, administering prescribed medication and treatment as permitted by the Nurse Practice Act, performance of additional nursing skills and procedures as permitted by the Nurse Practice Act and maintains a clean, healthful and safe environment.
d. Identifies the needs of the child and family and reports these to the RN Case Manager.
e. Fosters the family and child achieving independence.
5. Maintains professional responsibilities to remain up to date on standards regarding child care, PPEC regulations and
The Kidz Club policies.
a. Keeps current in The Kidz Club affairs via staff meetings and designated communications.
b. Records work accurately and appropriately.
c. Attends in-service education and required training including The Kidz Club in-services and additional in-services
to learn new procedures, applications and updates.
6. Assists in cleaning and maintenance of the facility.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by RN Case Manager, Charge Nurse, Administrator, or Site Director of Nursing.
8. Follows all policy and procedures implemented by The Kidz Club as applicable to the job or duties assigned and in
relation to the employee handbook.
9. Maintains a current certification in basic life support.
10. Maintains a current valid LPN License.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current LPN licensure in the state of Kentucky. A minimum of six months current experience as a practicing LPN preferred. Pediatric experience preferred. Current negative Tuberculosis skin test (PPD) required. Current CPR (Basic Life Support) required.
