Installs, repairs, rebuilds, and services mechanical or electrical locking devices by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Installs, repairs, modifies, and opens a variety of locking mechanisms found on doors, desks and compartments or mobile equipment. Disassembles locks such as padlocks, safe locks, door locks, and repairs or replaces worn tumblers, cores, springs, and other parts. Cuts new or duplicate keys using key cutting machine. Moves lock pick in cylinder to open door locks without keys. May open safe locks by drilling. Establishes keying system for buildings. Keeps record of company locks and keys. Examines locking mechanism and installs new unit or disassembles unit and replaces worn tumblers, cores, springs, and other parts or repairs them by filing, drilling, chiseling and grinding. Opens door locks by moving lock pick in cylinder or opens safe locks by listening to lock sounds or by drilling. Inserts new or repaired tumblers into lock to change combination. Responsible for all associated paperwork and ordering material as required. Can attend meetings as it pertains to security and entry & exit points of buildings.
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
Required (Minimum) Qualifications
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to five years locksmith experience.
