What You'll Do:
Champion Safety.Work with the Safety & Health Division and Company officials to promote a safe work environment that meets all State and Federal rules and regulations.
Manage and Lead Team.Manage and coordinate Logistics Service Specialists (LSS) responsible for accurate order entry, timely delivery, and excellent customer service for multiple trucking terminals/markets. Attract, retain, and motivate staff. Conduct effective and timely performance dialogues with staff members on a quarterly basis. Approve time cards, authorize and maintain dispatcher schedules, and track vacation usage.
Schedule and Coordinate.Schedule LSS and plant dispatch staff to support daily, weekly, and monthly sales forecasts and to meet customer needs. Act as a liaison between customers, 3rd party haulers, sales, and plant dispatch. Oversee scheduling of the company trucking fleet and external haulers. Manage the day to day interaction with the independent haulers.
Coach and Train.Actively engage in the recruitment process. Provide coaching and feedback to employees. Ensure that employees receive proper training and instructions to perform assigned job duties.
Collaborate.Work closely with sales, operations, and customers to enhance our service, ensure that products meet customer needs and expectations, and to maximize job site trucking efficiency, including standby mitigation (job and plant site). Attend pre-job meetings with Sales, Technical Services, Safety & Health, and customers. Perform job site service/project management while the job ships. Work closely with inside and outside sales personnel on value drivers and issues impacting customer satisfaction.
Ensure Compliance.Ensure that area of responsibility is in compliance with all Company and Division policies and procedures, including governmental rules and regulations. Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation motor carrier rules and regulations, including but not limited to hours of service. Administer and enforce Company and Area policies and procedures.
Review Order Entry and Reports.Review daily order entry for completeness and accuracy. Review, approve, and maintain daily reports.
Resolve Conflicts.Resolve conflicts involving order takers, dispatchers, customers, operations, and sales. Assist account receivable in investigating disputed invoices, stand-by time, missing tickets, and missing ticket times.
Skills You'll Need:
Education.BS/BA in business administration, logistics, construction management, or a related degree is preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and work experience is required.
Experience.Must have a minimum of four years work experience in construction materials or a related industry. Must have a minimum of one year of supervisory, customer service, and logistics experience.
Operational Knowledge.Must have a solid understanding of the aggregate and asphalt business functions, as well as key drivers for sales, logistics, and customer satisfaction. Must have knowledge of the construction industry to include materials and project management.
Regulatory Knowledge.Must have knowledge of environmental and safety regulations in trucking and terminal operations. Must possess working knowledge of DOT (State and Federal) motor-carrier rules and regulations to allow effective evaluation, representation, and management of Vulcan's interests in its relationships with transportation service providers. Must have knowledge of OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations.
Problem Solving Skills.Must be able to quickly analyze and understand complex business and organization issues. Must have business planning skills. Must be able to develop creative solutions to address issues involving customer service, logistics, and job site issues/concerns. Must be able to understand, interpret, and apply policies and procedures.
Interpersonal Skills.Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and interact well with all levels of the organization. Must be able to represent Vulcan in a professional manner. Must know when to stand tough and when to be flexible. Must be able to see the big picture and the ramification of one's actions.
Supervisory Knowledge.Must possess knowledge of modern principles and practices of supervising production employees.
Time Management Skills.Must be able to manage time effectively with minimal supervision. Must have initiative and ability to handle multiple assignments and stay results-oriented. Must have ability to work in a stressful, deadline-oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision making.
Technology Skills.Must have the ability to use computerized equipment and technology.
Driving Skills.Must be able to drive a pickup truck on a daily basis.
