Overview
Aerojet Rocketdyne (AR) offers a complete line of propulsion products from launch vehicles to missile defense, which have been used in a wide variety of government and commercial applications, including the main engines for the Space Shuttle, Atlas and Delta launch vehicles, and High Altitude Defense Systems.
We are seeking a leader to join us as our day shift manager for our Production Machining operations, located at the Aerojet Rocketdyne Canoga Park, CA site. This manager is responsible for the execution of all manual and CNC machining processes (milling, turning, drilling). The manager is also responsible for the Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), Jig Bore, Grind, and all bench top / manual deburr processing.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
This position is responsible for directing the daily activities related to execution of the above noted machining work centers located at the Aerojet Rocketdyne Canoga Park (LA area) site. All hourly technicians will report directly to the manager.
This position is a direct report to the Senior Manager, Machining.
Job Breakdown:
25% - Managing direct labor charging to ensure regulatory compliance. Managing work assignments to maximize the utilization of resources, meet delivery requirements, and achieve efficiency targets. Maintaining employee training, certifications, and critical skills. Analyzing cost & quality drivers to identify cause(s) and implement corrective actions.
30% - Directing daily work assignments within the work centers to meet quality, cost, and schedule commitments. Leading cross-functional team members to interpret hardware processing requirements. Coordinating technical support to ensure hardware velocity. Maintaining tooling and work center readiness (calibration, preventative maintenance plans).
15% - Identifying, reporting, and eliminating unsafe acts & unsafe conditions within the work centers. Leading relentless root cause analysis investigations while striving for mistake-proof Level 1 corrective and preventive actions.
30% - Implementing actions to achieve safety, quality, cost, and performance improvement goals; regular application of Lean manufacturing tools and techniques to continuously improve processes.
Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and seven (7) years of progressive experience in a directly related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Successful candidates will have direct experience in manufacturing, production and/or production support systems. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to organize and complete projects, objectives, and tasks. Candidates must be capable of leading a diverse team and collaborating in a cross-functional organization to deliver results. The ability to adapt in a dynamically changing environment is also a necessary skill for this position. Experience working in a bargaining unit environment is also desired. Must be proficient with utilizing Microsoft Office software suite.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
The work environment includes managing resources daily in a shop environment. Safety glasses, steel-toed shoes are required in these areas. Additional personal protective equipment may be required. The position includes a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting. Work duties also require working in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer.
