Emory University's Central Communications and Public Relations Division is seeking a Managing Editor to join their team. JOB DESCRIPTION: + The Managing Editor is a creative thinker, inspirational leader, and a collaborative partner. + Directly supervises the day-to-day operations of Emory writers and editors, and reports to the Executive Director of Content Development. + Works with Enterprise Communications to ensure content direction is aligned with strategic direction. + Serves as a working manager who writes and edits content, develops compelling story ideas, assigns articles, motivates staff, and keeps projects on schedule. + Responsible for the day-to-day workflow of editorial projects including writing, compiling, and editing content for magazines, collateral, and other publishing projects, utilizing strong knowledge of print, Web, photography, video, and social media. + Writes for a range of magazines while also producing copy for the Emory website, social media, and e-newsletters. + Curates, organizes, and directs design of Emory Magazine. Ensures that content is audience-focused, fresh, relevant and compelling. + Manages schedules and enforces deadlines; oversees proofreading procedures and edit copy when necessary. + Assists in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style and tone. + Performs other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + A bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field. + Five years of experience managing magazines, including experience managing editorial teams. + Experience working in higher education and alumni relations is preferred.
