The primary role of the Mechanic/Welder-Heavy & Light Equipment is to service, repair, and maintain both heavy and light plant equipment. He/she completes regular, consistent inspections and maintains appropriate records and files of vehicles.
Weld and cut
Service and repair of all equipment
Perform work area housekeeping duties
Determine if work areas are safe
Observe all safety rules
Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures.
Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
Other duties as necessary
Must have an understanding of and the ability to operate equipment
Must be available for call-outs (have reliable transportation)
Must be willing to work overtime
Fabricate and install pumps and/or rebuild gear boxes
Operate forklift and front-end loader
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED
Must have experience working with diesel and gas engines
Technical schooling is preferred, but can be substituted with experience
Knowledgeable in mechanical inspection tools
Technical understanding of hydraulic and electrical schematics
Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical components
Attention to detail
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver’s license
