Patient care responsibilities to include patient education, obtaining prior medical history, patient care coordination, completing all required scheduling for patient testing as well as allergy testing and allergy immunizations under supervision, ordering allergy supplies, stocking rooms & inventory of clinical supplies.

Works directly with the faculty member during patient clinics. Provides appropriate follow-up to patients, making referrals to outside sources for X-rays, labs, PET Scans, MRI/CT, cardiac or medical clearance for surgical procedures, home health agencies and obtaining medication authorizations as well as prior authorizations for procedures and allergy testing or treatment.
Coordinate appointments with other specialists such as radiation oncology, pulmonology, endocrinology, nutritional counseling or social services consultation.
Prepares surgical packets for the hospital. Coordinates patient’s date of surgery with surgery scheduler. Notifies patient of any pre-operative/post-operative instructions and educates patient on any post-operative care for wounds, drains, tracheotomies, etc.
Assists faculty members during examinations of patients, to include post-operative wound care, any minor office procedures and educates patients regarding proper care and follow-up.
Performs allergy testing as needed and as directed by Allergy Division Physicians, and report results to the physician.
Administers immunotherapy plan of treatment at the direction of Allergy Division Physicians.
Will follow all Allergy Division Protocols set forth by the Allergy Division Physicians.
Responsible for taking messages, paging doctors when appropriate and answering inquiries.
Responsible for scheduling patients for return visits as indicated by plan of treatment by Physician.
Obtain appropriate records from referring physicians and facilities as well as all pertinent records and tests relating to current visit such as ED records, CT reports, consult reports, etc.
Monitor physician schedule and adjust accordingly so that schedule is not overbooked/under booked and if needed reschedule patients as requested by physician or office manager
Complete FMLA and patient disability forms as needed.
Assist in preparing patient information for weekly Tumor Board and attending if requested and/or if have a patient being presented that week.
Triage patient phone calls with appropriate follow-up and respond within the designated time frame (24-48 hours) under the direction of the Physician.
Calls patients from reception area and prepare patients for examination such as taking vital signs, reconcile allergy lists, medication lists, and smoking status of patients and documenting in the electronic health record.
Participate in all staff meetings, education lectures and quality improvement activities. Some travel to other satellite offices may be required.
Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, restocking of the clinical area and exam rooms. Sterilize instruments when used and maintain medical equipment.
Appropriately document interventions in the electronic medical record. Review the chart for completeness, test results and billing. Billing accurately and completely for all appropriate procedures and encounters.
Inventory and submit reorder requests to office manager or designated individual.
Follow EVMS protocols related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality. Complete annual recertification for Blood Borne Pathogens, HIPAA Compliance Training, Respiratory FIT and IT Policy. Maintain current CPR certification and any updates relating to M.A. Certification.
Perform other duties as assigned
High school diploma plus successful completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification (RMA or CMA).
