The Center for Memory Loss and Brain Health, a collaborative program between Neuroscience and Geriatrics at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), an academic center within Hackensack Meridian Health system, is seeking a Medical Director. This physician leader will be focused on cognitive assessment, medical training and research and expected to expand this program locally and across our network. In addition, this leader will be responsible for developing and expanding research initiatives.
Preference for candidates who are board certified in geriatrics with experience in treating dementia within an interdisciplinary model. Our interdisciplinary team consists of a geriatrician, cognitive-behavioral neurologist, social worker, neuro and counseling psychologist, speech/PT/OT. The group works in close partnership with community-based organizations.
Training programs include a geriatrics fellowship, residency rotations for internal medicine and family medicine, substantial engagement in medical school educational activities, and rotations for interdisciplinary students including PA/APN and neuropsychology students.
Faculty research activities include participation in a Center for Medicare and Medicaid innovation grant evaluating impact of health care disparities and health related social needs in accountable health communities, collaborative epidemiologic studies of dementia, and a variety of other endeavors.
The Division of Geriatrics at HUMC and the Hackensack Meridian Medical School at Seton Hall University is a well-established program with high visibility in the HMH network, an Age Friendly Health System. It was enhanced in 2018 by the arrival of several prominent geriatricians – Dr. Laurie Jacobs, Chair of Medicine, and Dr. Hannah Lipman, Director of Bioethics, and the appointment of Dr. Manisha Parulekar as Division Chief. The Division is currently comprised of 15 physicians and 3 nurse practioners, a HELP program director, research director, administrative director and support staff. Clinical programs include The Center for Healthy Senior Living, a level 3 PCMH ambulatory care program, robust inpatient consultative service, several large post-acute care services and directorships as well as a faculty-led hospice program across all clinical venues.
