PAY PLAN: 101 - $ 21,850.00 per year
QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate; Must have State Certification as a Medication Aide, and preferably one (1) year of experience as a Medication Aide, but not required; Must have the ability to fluently and efficiently communicate in English and Spanish. Skills in giving medicine and ensuring patients comply with regimen. Skills in documenting medicine observations in patient files. Ability to charting observations in files. Knowledge of the importance of maintaining patient confidentiality. Skills in use of office machines and computers. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, comply with State of Texas Driving Laws, and maintain an acceptable driving record. Employees of Cameron County may be required to work during any natural disaster or emergency. Criminal background check is required for employment or continued employment. Must work weekend and holidays.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Works under the supervision of the assigned nurse and with direction from other Jail health facility personnel, distributes medications to assigned patients on a set schedule, will observe individual patients ingesting their medicines, and will read PPD's of patients in a timely fashion for inmates in three separate locations (Detention I, Detention II, Old County Jail, and Carrizales-Rucker). Medication Aide will assist charge nurse in packaging medications to the extent allowed by Texas law. Assists in quality assurance of the jail health facilities by executing certain monthly or quarterly audits, organizing clinic site for morning sick call; Assists in "first response" should a medical emergency arise; Performs other duties as assigned. This position is subject to a six (6) month probationary period prior to Civil Service eligibility; Must submit to a Civil Service clerical exam.
