SUMMARY
Hennepin Healthcare Crisis Residence Home located on Chicago Avenue has an immediate opening for a part time, benefit earning Mental Health Worker level II working 56 hours/pay period, rotating Day/Evenings/Overnights and Every other Weekend. Shift length are 8 hours.

Under direct supervision of nursing staff, performs work of routine difficulty in assisting in the treatment of clients in an acute care inpatient or residential setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides patient care to inpatients or patients in the psychiatric emergency department of HCMC under supervision of nursing staff; therapeutic 1:1, evaluates, intervenes, and reports to and works with nursing staff and/or mental health professional to follow individualized patient care plans.
- Participates in planning and implementing treatment team recommendations concerning individual and group patient programming;
- Follows the problem-oriented method for patient charting or reporting on behaviors observed; promotes and maintains a healthy and safe treatment setting.
- Provides patient care with ADL’s;
- Maintains an organized and clean milieu;
- Provides milieu support to patients and nursing staff. May provide patient care activities and clerical activities.
- Facilitates non psychotherapy activities including but not limited to individual and group psychoeducation
- Crisis management and referral for basic needs and medical care, ongoing mental health services and other issues as they arise
- As needed, evaluate effectiveness of group mental health programming and develop programming to meet client needs and meet state requirement for best practices
- Provide supportive and follow-up education measures to clients and families about the nature of the illness/condition and recommended treatments
- Coordinate client care
- Developing relationship with client and encouraging participation in treatment
- Coordinating care with other providers
- Discharge planning and coordination
- Meeting with clients individually, as needed
- Serve as team representative
- Oversee and mentor behavioral health students
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/ Work Experience:
- Meet the criteria for a “Mental Health Practitioner” by the MN Department of Human Services. (See Appendix A)
- Mental health practitioners providing services for the treatment of mental illness, who are not eligible for enrollment, must be under clinical supervision of a mental health professional and must be qualified in at least one of the following five ways:
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science or a related field, from an accredited college or university and meets either a or b:
- Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health services to recipients with mental illness
- Is fluent in a non-English language of a cultural group to which at least 50% of the practitioner’s recipients belong, completes 40 hours of training in the delivery of services to recipients with mental illness, and receives clinical supervision from a mental health professional at least once a week until the requirements of 2,000 hours of supervised experience are met
- Has at least 6,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of mental health services to recipients with mental illness. Hours worked as a mental health behavioral aide I or II under Children’s Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS) may be included in the 6,000 hours of experience for child recipients
- Is a graduate student in one of the mental health professional disciplines and an accredited college or university formally assigns the student to an agency or facility for clinical training
- Holds a masters or other graduate degree in one of the mental health professional disciplines from an accredited college or university
- Is a tribally certified mental health practitioner who is serving a federally recognized Indian tribe
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science or a related field, from an accredited college or university and meets either a or b:
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of related experience in a similar healthcare environment (behavioral health, nursing)
- Actively enrolled in or a graduate of a two-year or four-year behavioral health or registered nursing program.
- Training in (or willingness to learn) motivational interviewing techniques
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
- Ability to de-escalate sometimes stressful patient situations
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing skills and techniques
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to support and provide patient and family centered care in a team environment
- Ability to meet the diverse needs of the patient population(s) being served
