Network Virtualization Engineer
Duration: 6 months but with strong possibility of extension
Pay rate: $65- $75 Depending on Experience
Location: Palo Alto, CA
- Design, implementation, and support for the network within Cloud environment. Understand application and hardware points of failure, performance characteristics and have the ability to identify actionable items to maintain an acceptable service level for all associated environments and applications
-Participate in an on-call rotation and serve as top-level support for network related issues. Adhere to policies, processes and procedures within areas of responsibility.
-Maintain and administer applications, custom monitors and custom reports.
-Serve as third tier escalation and provide root cause for incidents or problems in the environment. Work with project management resources related to the execution of projects related to the area of responsibility.
-Document, track, respond and provide resolution to incidents and service requests with the required service level agreements.
- Create and maintain documentation (diagrams, stand operating procedures and run books). Identify, schedule and execute maintenance activates through change control processes.
- Analyze data, develop and distribute trending reports detailing capacity, performance, and availability metrics for assigned applications and services.
-Audit and remediation of discrepancies from standards.
-Recommend and implement monitoring test sets to ensure availability. Operate dense and expansive datacenter network installations, requiring 24/7 accessibility.
Collaborate with a team to architect and engineer elastic cloud networks.
-Hands on implementation, maintaining, and troubleshooting of these complex networks.
-Perform technology assessment and requirements analysis to develop proper solutions for internal/external PoC's.
-Collaborate with other engineering and operations teams working toward shared goals.
-Document concise pre-deployment and post-deployment plans and review with team for all configuration changes.
-Stay abreast of current technologies and make recommendations based on knowledge and research
- What hours/days will this person be working?
9am-5pm job; however there is possibility of after hours support/weekend outages/emergencies. These emergencies rarely happen.
2) What are the top 3 skills/requirements this person should have?
a.) CCIE/ CCNP/CCNA (CCDA also considered)
b.) 10-15 years of experience in network operations; network data center lab operations c.) hands-on experience with VMware technology
3) What are the top 3 soft skills ?
a.) Work comes through queue--have to be service oriented
b.) detailed oriented and thorough
C.) And being team player - will be collaborating with other members of team, documenting, sharing information, and cross training. **Good culture in team; everyone willing to dive in and help out people. Knowledge base and self-service;
4) What are other requirements?
a) Education level desired - Bachelor of science - BS or BA
b) Previous experience - 10-15 years of experience in networking;
c) Have intimate knowledge of how switches work, upgrade switches; got to have deep VMware experience
d) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
