St. Johns Riverside Hospital has an opening for the position of Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner, working in clinical collaboration with a GI attending physician to provide comprehensive health care to a select patient population in a comprehensive GI office and hospital-based practice . Job duties include obtaining subjective information/history, performing physical examination, and evaluating findings; request and evaluate diagnostic studies as indicated by the patient’s physical status; identify health problems and developing a plan of care, incorporating the physical, psychological, emotional, societal and environmental needs of the patient; Implement appropriate treatment including prescriptions for drugs, devices, and immunizing agents, laboratory work, imaging/cardiology services as needed; provide individualized patient education regarding the diagnosis and treatment of his/her medical conditions, as well as appropriate preventative measures; prescribe medication dosages and frequencies based on patient characteristics such as age and gender; provide consultative and instructional guidance to nursing and other health care professionals in the area of expertise; review and update protocols and procedures incorporating current research findings. The GI NP is involved in the total care of the Hospital gastroenterology patient from admission to discharge and outpatient follow up.
Position requires a Master of Science- Family Nurse Practitioner or in any related field and 1 year of experience. Gastroenterology experience preferred. Applicant must be certified and registered as a nurse practitioner by the New York State Education Department and has a Certificate from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) or passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Applicant must be authorized to work in the United States.
