To provide medical care and treatment within establishedscope of nursing practice to hospital inpatients as assigned by and under thedirection of the collaborating physician (Section 610-X-9 of the Alabama Boardof Nursing Administrative Code). The collaborating physician shall be availablefor direct communication for consultation and referral or arrange for the samemedical coverage by a physician who is preapproved by the State Board ofMedical Examiners in the same manner as the collaborating physician of record.To coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate tomeet the age specific needs of the patient. To plan and coordinate health careeducation for patient, family and other health care providers as needed. Toperform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments. To interpret,analyze and evaluate patient's medical record and social data. To performand/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement. Tocoordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.
This position is seeking an AdvancedPractice Provider (APP) to work for the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Careat UAB Hospital. The APP will work rotating 12-hr night shifts and rotatingweekends & holidays. The APP's responsibilities will be to provide medicalcare and treatment for patients admitted to the Medical ICU and Lung Transplantservices. The position entails the evaluation & management of criticallyill patients, performing procedures within the defined specialty scope ofpractice and coordinating the care of the patients. The APP will see patients,transcribe notes, perform health histories, diagnose, manage, and instituteemergency measures & treatments.
Master's degree in Nursing and three (3) years of relatedexperience preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for educationrequirement. Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) withCertified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty by the Alabama Boardof Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the AmericanHeart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days ofemployment. Depending on the unit/department, Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) certification and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from theAmerican Heart Association (AHA) may be required.
An Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification is requiredfor this position.
