POSITION TITLE: Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner
DEPARTMENT: After Hours Clinic
REPORTS TO: Administration Director of GRH Clinics and ED Medical Director
JOB PURPOSE: To improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.
BASIC FUNCTION: Assesses, plans, and provides emergent, urgent and acute primary care in the After Hours Clinic for Grand River Hospital District. Examines patients, performs comprehensive physical examinations, and compiles patient medical data including health history and results of examinations under the supervision of a physician. Works in collaboration with Physicians to assess the physical needs of patients admitted to the After Hours Clinic. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to Physicians and other departments. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. In addition to clinical duties, participates in quality assurance planning, initiatives, and improvement projects. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.
Physician Assistant:Requires graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Active Colorado Physician Assistant licensure required. National Physician Assistant certification through NCCPA preferred. Master’s Degree in area of specialty preferred.
Nurse Practitioner:Requires active Colorado licensure as a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner in area of specialty based on RN licensure and Colorado authority for advanced practice.
Requires a current BLS card that must be maintained throughout GRHD employment. ACLS & PALS cards are required within 6 months of initial employment and must be maintained throughout GRHD employment.
Experience: 3 to 5 years working experience in an Emergency Department and/or clinical setting in a similar role preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Familiar with advanced concepts, practices and procedures within the field. Knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers. Knowledge of and ability to assess ailments and injuries of patients and implement a treatment plan. Knowledge of healthcare including the operating principles, major issues, governmental regulations, and code of ethics for the healthcare industry; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to healthcare related situations. Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods; ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests and medical results in written and electronic format. Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used in administering patient care.
Ability to adhere to GRHD policies, regulations and procedures while performing the duties associated with the position. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, co-workers and the public. Ability to maintain performance improvement and quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergent situations. Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers and patients. Must be proficient within six (6) months of hire in Allscripts Touchworks, Allscripts PM, Allscripts Carescripts, Provider Portal – esign, Galactica, Meditech, QHN, PACS, Dragon, Dictaphone, Muse, Colorado Drug Portal, Up to Date, Krames, CQS, CIIS, Kronos and ECI.

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. This position performs tasks that involve Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, body fluids or tissues. Exposure to patients’ conditions and some unpleasant sights, smells and diseases are common. Frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards. May experience traumatic situations including occasional exposure to psychiatric, combative, dismembered or deceased patients.
