We are currently seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist for a temporary assignment at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC.
Acute Care and/or Skilled experience required. Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapist in DC.
Monday - Friday, 8:00-4:30.
Plans and provides occupational therapy as prescribed and ensures quality care is provided to physical rehabilitation and/or psychiatric patients.
1. Participates in planning and development of Occupational Therapy programs and ensures they are conducted in conjunction with the therapeutic goals, policies, and plan of service of the hospital, Department of Rehabilitation Services, and the Department of Psychiatry. Requires good planning and problem solving abilities.2. Evaluates each patient’s strengths, needs and limitations through appropriate departmental assessments, review of the history, observations and discussion with patient, staff, and/or families. Must be able to read the patient’s medical record and communicate verbally with others.3. Documents the initial occupational therapy assessment, goals, plan of care, observations, progress towards goals, and discharge summary in the patient’s medical record. Revises goals as necessary.4. Plans and conducts individual and group occupational therapy sessions based on department protocols, Physicians’ prescriptions, and the Occupational Therapy Assessment; which are designed to assist the patient to overcome or to minimize physical or mental illnesses, and to allow each person to perform at his maximum level of independence. These may include and are not limited to: physical exercises, coordination activities, heat, ADL training, splint fabrication, joint protection and energy conservation, stress management, relaxation techniques, task groups, cooking, and basic life skills, and community outings. Requires the ability to supervise several tasks simultaneously and the stress associated with working in a psychiatric and/or acute care rehabilitation environment.5. Plans, coordinates, and collaborates with other disciplines for treatment and discharge needs of individual patients referred to Occupational Therapy. Attends and verbally participates in scheduled interdisciplinary team meetings.6. Instructs and demonstrates to patients and family members, exercises and treatments to be performed at home. Provides written handouts when appropriate, as well as, physical demonstration of exercises and treatment.
1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Occupational Therapy, including or supplemented by six months clinical internship.2. Current license in Occupational Therapy from the District of Columbia.3. One-year clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist is preferred. Prefer a candidate with both Acute Care and Skilled experience, but would consider someone with one of these. 4. Current AHA BLS Certification required.
