About the Job
OUTCOME To Provide the highest quality of care in the practice of massage therapy for patients currently or formerly undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment as well as their families and/or caregivers. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Provides safe, effective and appropriate Massage Therapy services to patients with and without a cancer diagnosis, taking into account individual patients special physical or age-related needs. 2. Develops appropriate treatment goal/plan based on the client’s goals, a review of the client’s health history, information gathered from the client’s health care team (if provided), and best practice in Oncology Massage Therapy. 3. Demonstrates individualized appropriate treatment planning including therapy application and treatment intervention including but not limited to reduction of stress and pain, decreasing anxiety and depression, decreasing fatigue, decreasing nausea, improving muscle tone and circulation, and improving overall feeling of well-being. 4. Updates treatment plan/goals based on the client’s response to intervention and reassessments per the policies. Demonstrates timely adjustments based on changes in client status and/or needs. 5. Ensure a safe environment, maintains equipment and supplies in a clean operable and safe manner, and follows institutional infection control policies. 6. Evaluates and documents patient progress related to symptom management and the provided therapy. 7. Develops a trusting relationship with patient, families and other team members. Make necessary patient referrals to other programs and services 8. Performs clerical tasks for the Wellness Center. 9. Assist Supervisor and Manager with marketing strategies and promotions of massage services and products. 10. Maintains patient confidentiality under HIPAA compliance. 11. Responsible for maintaining excellent appearance and function of treatment room. 12. Attends all trainings, events, staff meetings, etc. as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager. 13. Consistently maintains positive, up-beat attitude and professional appearance. 14. Corresponds with Supervisor on monthly schedule and room preparation in a timely manner. |
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. Must be a graduate of an accredited massage therapy school with working knowledge of and preferably additional training in oncology massage therapy. 2. Must provide liability insurance documentation 3. Must be able to provide chair massage for two-hour time blocks, and ability to work through clothing. 4. Must have high level of sensory acuity, and ability to communicate with staff and caregivers in the midst of a fast-paced environment. 5. Experience in a healthcare, palliative care, or hospice environment highly preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Normal Hospital environment. 2. While using proper body mechanics during client procedures, stooping, kneeling, reaching, manual dexterity and tactile sensitivity are required to effectively perform massage therapy techniques. 3.
