The Outpatient Administrative Specialist will perform standardized patient registration, discharge and phones calls to include verification of demographic, insurance and/or financial information, generate routine forms and other documentation, work to advise patients on insurance carrier requirements including services not covered, coordinate incoming and outgoing referrals and manages the denial processes. Other responsibilities include assisting in preparation of monthly reporting activities, serving as a resource for providers and staff relative to the referral and authorization process, coordination of referrals, incoming and outgoing to include building in EPIC, and appointment scheduling, and maintaining attending, fellows and ancillary schedules for accuracy, blocks as appropriate, and ensuring schedules are full and templates are rolled out as per the division chiefs guidelines. The Outpatient Administrative Specialist works closely with the academic secretaries, is responsible for daily distribution of open encounters to providers to close, and works multiple EPIC work queues and EPIC in basket messages daily. Associate's degree and two (2) years relevant patient financial/insurance services experience in a healthcare related setting or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Prior working experience in ambulatory patient care administrative functions including obtaining referrals and insurance authorizations, managing EPIC referral work queues, communicating with outside agencies such as insurance carriers, billing companies and/or other support agencies preferred. Working knowledge of medical terminology, familiarity with medical coding, and excellent written/oral communication skills required.
