190 Day Position
Salary: Paraprofessional Salary Scale ~ NOTE: The 2019-20 salary will be prorated for the remainder of the school year.
- Minimum of High School Diploma or GED required. (See note below)
- Hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate issued by the Professional Standards Commission.
- Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
- Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
Note: Applicants with a high school diploma, GED, or have earned less than 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college credits (no grades below a C) are required to pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment to be qualified for consideration as a Paraprofessional. Applicants that have earned 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college or have earned an Associate's Degree or higher are not required to take the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.
Special Education Paraprofessional
The Special Education Paraprofessional shall be directly responsible to the Principal. The Special Education Paraprofessional must be able to perform tasks involving light to heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling and must be able to walk and/or stand a minimum of six (6) hours with breaks. Vision and hearing are essential factors in performing required tasks.
The Special Education Paraprofessional shall:
1.) Work with individual and/or small groups of students in corrective or reinforcement activities assigned by the teacher except where certain programs may prohibit supervision of a given activity.
2.) Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
3.) Assist with supervision of students.
4.) Alert the classroom teacher of any problem or special information about an individual student.
5.) Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
6.) Accurately check objective tests for correct responses but does not assign or record grades.
7.) Assist the teacher in performing necessary clerical tasks only at a time other than during the instructional period.
8.) Assist with the preparation of materials for instruction, including the copying/duplicating of materials, construction of display/bulletin boards, learning centers and manipulatives.
9.) Assist in the ordering and inventory of classroom equipment and materials.
10.) May plan, prepare and develop various teaching aids, such as bibliographies, charts and graphs.
11.) Participate in training workshops as required by the school system.
12.) Maintain confidentiality of all school information concerning students, staff and school business.
13.) Attend faculty meetings and other meetings as required.
14.) Maintain paraprofessional license as required by the Georgia Department of Education.
15.) Demonstrate positive working relationship with others.
16.) Assist with classroom housekeeping.
17.) Assist with individual student health and/or hygiene needs.
18.) Perform other such duties as may be required by the Principal.
