Position Summary:
The Part-Time School Nurse Professional is a grant funded position for the 2020-2021 school year, and will provide support to the staff and students as the primary contact person regarding activities related to COVID-19 preparedness and response. While working predominantly morning shifts (typically, though not exclusively, 3 hours per day, 5 days per week) on a public school campus, this person will primarily act as the contact for COVID-19 preparedness and internal/external communication to the Lewisville Home Office and Local/State Health Departments.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
- Valid nursing license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners
- CPR and First Aid Certifications
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to implement policies and procedures
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs
- Ability to exercise professional judgement in making decisions
- Working knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets
Responsibilities and Duties
- Provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols
- Serve as a health advocate for the students
- Notify parents of illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached)
- Educate faculty and staff as needed on COVID-19
- Serve as a health liaison between school, physicians, parents and the community
- Compile, maintain, and file all school data in compliance with state and federal confidentiality regulations in regards to COVID-19
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed to follow CDC guidelines with COVID-19
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area
- Report potential health and safety hazards to principal and Director of Health Services
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations
- Planning for and management of care for suspected COVID-19 cases while protecting the well population from exposure
- Consult with local and state health departments as needed and required by the CDC
- Daily tracking of staff and students with symptoms of COVID-19
- Daily tracking of students or staff that have been sent home ill and monitor attendance to promote safe and timely post COVID-19 return to school/work
- Establish protocols for assessment of students or staff with symptoms of COVID-19
- Help create a school environment that supports social distancing
- Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid
- Model behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible
- Establish isolation area to address students and staff with COVID-19 symptoms occurring during school hours
- Travel as required
- All other duties as assigned
