We are searching for a Patient CareTechnician to join our OR Department position on a Per Diembasis. Under the direction and supervision of RegisteredNurses and Licensed Practical Nurses, the PST administers direct nursingcare consistent with the nursing care plan, including treatment, hygiene andmonitoring vital signs and accepts additional tasks as assigned.
The patient support technician (PST) is an integralpart of a multidisciplinary care team. Under the direction of licensed nursingpersonnel; the PST within the scope of training and hospital guidelinesperforms a variety of technical and specialized skills that assist withaddressing the comfort and personal care needs of the patient. Responsibilitiesmay include but not limited to measuring vital signs, specimen collection,phlebotomy, administering blood glucose testing, feeding, bathing,repositioning, transporting, performing EKGs, measuring I&O’s andelectronic documentation. Direct observation and monitoring of patients deemedto be at risk to self or others. Care is provided to all patients based on agespecific development and cultural diversity. Performs necessary clerical dutiesby computing and maintaining records for a nursing unit. Overall management of the nursing stationincluding taking off physician orders, answering telephones, answering patientcall lights and obtaining supplies and other duties as needed. Also accepts additional tasks assigned. Job may include direct supervision ofstudents at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or havecompleted the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline ofthe student. Direct supervision meansthe primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.
- Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS – Healthcare provider.
- Education: Basicreading comprehension required
- Experience: Patientcare experience preferred. Must show proficiency in performing nursingassistant duties. Knowledge of medical terminologydesirable. Experience as a ward clerk orunit secretary in acute care preferred. Mustpossess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of thepatient/internal & external customer. Performs in accordance withdelineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearlyevaluation based on these responsibilities.
- Specialqualifications: Must have the abilityto effectively read, write and speak fluent English. Effective communication skills; both orallyand written. Computer skillsneeded. Ability to manage multiple taskssimultaneously and to work with others within a team to ensure quality patientcare.
Degree of Supervision Required: Involves general guidance and direction bySupervisors, Department Manager, Charge or Staff nurse. The employee will be expected to perform mostjob duties independently and in accordance with established departmental andhospital policies and procedures.
