PEDIATRIC BIOCHEMICAL GENETICIST
The Division of Clinical Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics at Childrens Mercy Kansas City is seeking a full-time pediatric biochemical geneticist to join a dynamic and talented team of two clinical biochemical geneticists, four pediatric geneticists, and twelve genetic counselors. The division is supported by outstanding nursing and administrative staff, three metabolic dietitians, research coordinators and a social worker. Providers work closely with the faculty and staff in the Biochemical Genetics, Molecular, and the Cytogenetics Laboratories. There are ample opportunities for collaboration with the Childrens Mercy Center for Pediatric Genomic Medicine, the Childrens Research Institute at Childrens Mercy, the University of Missouri Kansas City and the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Job responsibilities include evaluation, diagnosis and management of patients with a wide variety of inherited metabolic genetic disorders, lysosomal storage diseases, and mitochondrial diseases as well as follow up expertise for abnormal metabolic newborn screens. Childrens Mercy is the referral center for newborn screening in Kansas and eastern Missouri. Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and other trainees is essential to this role. Eligible candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply. The division is devoted to advancing the career of junior faculty and it is supported by the Office of Faculty Development at Childrens Mercy. There are opportunities to collaborate with clinical and basic science researchers and clinicians with research experience are also encouraged to enquire.
Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in clinical biochemical genetics or medical biochemical genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Candidates must be licensed or license-eligible to practice medicine in the states of Missouri and Kansas. Candidates with additional board certifications in clinical genetics and in pediatrics are highly valued.
