Per diem physicians of Cornell Health provide direct ambulatory primary patient care to students of the University, and to Cornell faculty and staff using the Health Center for occupational and episodic health care. All physicians collaborate with community and other Cornell Health physician colleagues, health associates, nursing staff, ancillary and support staff, professional psychotherapist staff, physical therapists and health educators. In their clinical work with students, physicians are involved with the developmental, educational, social and academic aspects of students’ lives, and often are called upon to interact with parents, faculty and other professionals, both on and off campus in a patient-centered medical home model of primary care delivery.
Physicians maintain, broaden and improve professional skills by active participation in individual and group continuing education activities and also by participation in ongoing Quality Improvement activities. Cornell Health, by organizational necessity, requires collaborative and attitudinal skills that foster enthusiasm, professional and personal growth, cooperation, mutually respectful communication, flexibility, initiative and adaptability. Physicians report to the Director for Medical Services.
This position is OSHA category BBP1; TB1; ERG2.
Physicians are “Essential Employees”; those needed on campus to meet the needs of students, research programs, or general operations when the university is in reduced operating status or closed.
- M.D. or D.O. with current NYS license (or license-eligible), BC/BE in primary care or other appropriate specialty.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with knowledge and sensitivities appropriate to working with a highly diverse, young adult population.
- CPR-BLS level certification achieved within one year of employment and maintained biannually, as applicable.
- No visa sponsorship is available for this position.

- Interest in and concern for health problems encountered in a campus community.
- Ability to coordinate with colleagues to maintain continuity of patient care and ensure the appropriate management and treatment of medical problems when not physically present at the health center.

- Facility with using an electronic health record to advance the care of patients using non-face-to-face opportunities for patient care.
- Experience with and desire to work in a team-based environment, working with varied and diverse healthcare staff in a patient centered medical home
