Milwaukee Tool's service experience is a customer expectation and a competitive advantage. The Service repair hubs are critical to that experience and to maintaining that advantage. The Plant Manager creates the culture, organization, processes, and systems to safely, efficiently, and consistently deliver that expected service experience.
This position has overall responsibility for all operations in a large hub repairing customers' tools. He/she will lead hundreds of people repairing thousands of tools per year. It requires strong skills in culture and team building, managing high-variability operations in a service environment, and utilizing KPI's to manage overall plant performance. This critical leadership role requires technical aptitude and cross-functional organizational abilities; it works constantly with engineering, human resources, finance, training, quality, supply & demand, and others, as well as its counterparts in other Service hubs and functions.
Critically, this role will lead a brand-new Service hub currently being built in Greenwood, IN. The Plant Manager will be integral to the project team and will lead the Indiana-based activities and team. Once open, the new hub will expand rapidly. Experience with new facility startup and new team creation is strongly desired.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Plant Manager is responsible for all operations and functions in the Service Hub, including those under direct control and through support functions. The Plant Manager ensures the Service Hub meets its operational objectives, develops its people, and embodies Milwaukee's cultural values.
Culture, environment, and team creation
+ Build and maintain a culture anchored on Milwaukee's core values.
+ Create an environment within leadership and on the plant floor that values all employees and their contributions, and that makes Milwaukee an employer-of-choice in the Greenwood/ Indianapolis area.
+ Working closely with Human Resources, state and local workforce development entities, and 3rd parties, to build and maintain the expertise, organization, processes, and relationships to hire and retain a skilled workforce in a high-growth environment.
+ Coordinate in-house and other training functions to provide employees the skills needed to do their jobs, and also training opportunities for career growth and advancement.
Startup, launch, and growth
+ Join the project team as a key leader and support startup according to the schedule and deliverables.
+ Assume leadership of the Greenwood, IN project team and activities while staying closely aligned with the overall Project Leader, Project Manager, and other project teams.
+ Know, understand, and drive the project deliverables, including volume and hiring requirements, product ramp-ups, schedule and budget, and state and local incentives.
+ After plant opening, support and lead growth in Phase II and beyond to expand plant staff, capabilities, and capacity.
Production, Safety, Service Levels, and New Product Development
+ Create the culture, organization, and processes to safely and efficiently repair customer tools within turn-time requirements in a high volume, high mix, low-automation environment.
+ Align with engineering, training, and other Service Hubs to maintain process consistency and propagate best practices across multiple Service Hubs.
+ Build and maintain the expertise, organization, and processes to manage service parts inventory and other production materials required. Ensure in-house resources collaborate with support functions to properly execute planning, ordering, transportation, receiving, warehouse management, and delivery to service benches.
+ Keep the plant aligned with corporate new product developments. Fully support the "Service VIGOR" new product development process. Adjust plant capabilities and capacities to absorb new products, new technologies, and new requirements, and to keep the plant aligned with the overall service network strategy.
+ Execute process improvement and cost savings projects while continuing to meet daily production goals.
+ Maintain a safe, efficient, and visually appealing plant.
Education and Experience Requirements
+ Requires a BS/BA degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or Industrial Technology or related area, or equivalent experience.
+ 10+ years' experience leading operations and a diverse workforce, including 5+ years' in plant management. Leadership in a service environment is highly preferred.
+ Experience or certification in Lean/Six Sigma, inventory management/planning, and/or project management is preferred.
+ Demonstrated success in:
+ Creating a high performing organization centered around a strong company culture.
+ Startup and high-change environments.
+ Instilling operational disciplines and best practices throughout leadership and on the plant floor; 5S, gemba walks, metrics/ KPIs/ dashboards, data-driven and financially sound decision making, workforce agility (cross training), etc.
+ Working cross-functionally with geographically distributed support functions and sister plants performing similar activities.
+ Driving continuous improvement activity as a part of normal business, and delivering year over year improvements and efficiencies.
+ Experience with new facility startup is highly preferred.
+ Solid communication skills, both written and verbal are required
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office products is required (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, TEAMS)
+ Travel during initial training and until plant opening will be regular and frequent, and may be 75% or higher. After plant opening travel will generally be occasional, up to 10%-15%. Travel is generally domestic and short durations. Destinations can include Milwaukee Tool facilities as well as customer and supplier locations.
