Police Dispatcher is an entry level classification. Positions in this classification do not require prior public safety communications experience. Incumbents receive intensive departmental training and learn to perform a variety of duties involved in receiving, prioritizing and transmitting emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and emergency medical services, and dispatching police personnel and equipment in response to those calls. As experience is acquired, the employee works with less immediate supervision.
This is a full-time position within the City of El Monte Police Department. The position is represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU) Local 721, and is covered by the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The schedule for this position includes work on holidays and weekends as well as day, night and graveyard shifts.
