This job is a chemical engineer’s dream! Due to the balanced variety of design and optimization work, this role offers opportunity for growth and diversification of skills. This site uses batch reaction and recently installed $30MM worth of new equipment, including a DCS controls system. The parent company has multiple facilities throughout the US and the World, producing specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals additives, coatings, and food additives. This person will act as a corporate engineer and primarily support the Boston plant (which also houses R&D) and a sister plant in Rhode Island. Secondarily, support will be focused on plants in GA, IL and IN with travel estimated at 20%. The small-to-medium-sized plants that this person would support primarily use batch reaction and are PSM-regulated. The cool part is the variety of work this person will be responsible for. 50% of the role will be doing preliminary design on capital expansions, including heat and mass balances, and working with engineering firms and Corporate Project Managers. Another 25% of the job will be overseeing recipe changes and calculating plant capacities. The last 25% will be doing PSM work on your design and process work. B.S. in Chemical Engineering degree with 5+ years of in-plant experience out of any PSM regulated chemical plant. Experience conducting preliminary design of small or large projects, performing heat and mass balances, equipment sizing and specification, process optimization and some experience with PSM (there are in-house PSM experts). A plus would be experience with scale-up, project management, process capability studies, batch reaction, resins, and experience with E&C firms. Candidate must be able to relate to all levels of people.
