This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre or related field. At least three (3) years of professional experience in production management/technical production are required. Lighting and sound expertise is required.
This position requires an industrious work ethic and outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills as well as meticulous attention to detail and customer service. Incumbent must have an ability to work independently, under pressure in a multi-tasking environment and as a dynamic and supportive part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, light boards, soundboards, and A/V presentation applications is required. This position safely troubleshoots and maintains theatrical rigging, lighting, and audio equipment as well as interacts tactfully regarding stakeholder satisfaction and safety. Incumbent must have knowledge of the proper policies and procedures of Austin ISD, the Fine Arts Department and the Performing Arts Center.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent works under the direction of and in cooperation with the Performing Arts Center (PAC) Manager. In the PAC Manager’s absence, this position assists in the execution, planning and directing of all operational activities of the PAC.
Facilitate the setup and execution of events.
Maintain and service equipment related to visual and performing arts in each space including lighting, sound, soft goods, marley flooring, acoustical shell, tools and the inventory of necessary supplies.
Maintain working knowledge of techniques and methods of stage, lighting, sound, and rigging as well as installation and preparation for theatrical or related events.
Coordinate front of house (FOH) activities during events such as box office, ushers and other staff when applicable.
Collaborate with the PAC Manager to schedule work days to safely maintain each space.
Facilitate the training and operational activities of technical staff, student interns and student volunteers as assigned/directed. Exemplify the expected manner and comportment in professional situations.
Assist with the supervision, design and implementation of technical aspects for events (theatrical, dance, band, choir and orchestra at both student and professional levels).
Work with PAC staff to ensure a clean, orderly and safe environment for staff, performers and patrons.
Assist the PAC Manager as needed on facility publicity, publications and community/district communications.
Collaborate in the development and implementation of long-term programs and practices such as the student intern program and the Summer Theatre Series.
Communicate directly with renters and AISD staff to determine technical needs for events.
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, including but not limited to, State Board of Education and local board policy.
Work long and flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Working conditions include working with frequent interruptions, repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computers and the ability to see within normal parameters and hear within normal range. Sitting for extended periods of time, plus frequent walking and standing is required. Occasional climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, infrequent pulling of weight, moderate lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds are required. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. Incumbent must maintain emotional control under stress.
