General Summary/Overview Statement
The Mass General Brigham Sports initiative launched in 2020 with the goal of creating a regional, national and international hub for Sports Medicine and related Specialties. To propel this work, the Program Director in MGB Sports will direct program implementation in a variety of workstreams including strategic planning, market analysis, human resource planning, physician recruitment, ambulatory practice management, etc. The Program Director will be responsible for the overall management of multiple concurrent projects, requiring strong project management, relationship management, superb communication, and consulting and analytical skills. The Program Director will oversee project and program management staff in addition to completing their own high-profile, complex project management deliverables.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Relevant activities include, but are not limited to the following:
Project Management Office Director. Serves as the lead project manager for MGB Sports, coordinating all project management workstreams across Project Managers(s) and other administrative and clinical Directors, Physicians, and Senior Leaders. Ensures successful executive of the projects to be aligned with MGB Sports strategy.
Facilitation & Negotiation. Acts as lead facilitator for key meetings including meetings involving senior MGB leadership, physician chiefs and physicians, directors and others. Asks insightful and difficult questions during these discussions and leads team to reach solutions and joint decisions. Has the ability to offer multiple solutions for consideration and negotiate where needed.
Project Management/Consulting. Lead project management activities of high-profile, complex MGB Sports Projects. This may include:
Develop detailed project plans and timelines with clear milestones
Observe and map out workflows in process diagrams
Engage stakeholders and ensure adherence to project plans
Facilitate program implementation
Define and report on key measures of success
Monitor performance tracking progress against targets and identified goals
Design and manage databases and document repositories as required
Produce agendas and minutes for meetings
Perform other-related duties as assigned or requested
Reports/Presentations. Complete data analyses and convert into convincing, persuasive executive level presentations on internal, environmental and strategic topics. Provide expertise and input on the development of measures of success.
Communication & Relationship Management. Communicate and develop effective relationships with clinicians and leaders on a wide range of healthcare and hospital topics including strategic planning, finance, IT and in-depth clinical operations. Responds to issues raised by stakeholders.
Content Matter Expertise. Gain further content expertise in each project by conducting market research, performing in-depth interviews and observations with MGB experts, and utilizing internal and external benchmarks.
Hire and manage staff in a way that promotes a supportive, respectful environment that includes training, appropriate delegation, accountability, and growth opportunities.
All other duties as assigned
Standard office conditions, however will require early morning and late evening meetings in order to meet with international clients
May require domestic and international travel
1-3 direct reports. Must be able to manage indirect resources who are participating in projects.
Awareness of budget and implications for project
Bachelors’ degree in business, healthcare or related field preferred
8 or more years of large project management experience
5 or more years’ experience in healthcare
Analytical Ability / Technology Skills:
Possesses intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Access and Visio a plus.
Maintains high competencies with spreadsheets and various data manipulation capabilities
Has the ability to quickly learn other information systems used within the institution
Demonstrates the ability to conduct detailed analysis as well as distill relevant findings for presentation to high-level audience
Has excellent problem-solving skills along with excellent attention to detail and follow-through
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation abilities
Demonstrates exceptional customer services skills and the ability to effectively interact with other departments within MGH, MGB and from other outside institutions
