Serves as an advanced prototype specialist, independently evaluating products and processes to provide recommendations within an area of expertise. Supports the development, evaluation, and verification of new and existing products, concepts, processes or tools when needed.
•Consults with engineering personnel and management to provide recommendations in the development of new products and processes.
•Generates working concepts and models based on written and verbal direction. Concepts and models are developed at the craftsmanship level set by the program team.
•Creates set ups and fixturing required to evaluate operation of working designs.
•Consults and collaborates with engineering, plant, design personnel and customer to meet product requirements and objectives.
•Communicates effectively with the project team, customer, supplier, manufacturing, and quality communities in resolving product issues and achieving product objectives.
•May require evaluation of products at customer and plant locations with little notice.
•Using tools, calibration equipment, and wires to build electrical system
•Electronics ability to debug and troubleshoot power / wiring / electronic issues, such as short/open circuits, damaged components on the board, wrong pin-out etc.
•Build wiring harness based on engineering blueprint or verbal instructions
•Solder and de-solder components on PCBs (through-put and smt)
•Operate motor dynamometer, testing equipment, such as data acquisition tool, CAN/LIN tools
•Use multi-meter, oscilloscope, signal generators and other commonly used tools in electronics lab
•Utilizes knowledge of current procedures, regulations, customer requirements and best practices to assist in evaluating the product to engineering requirements which supports the following: product quality, safety, cost, reliability, timing, and manufacturing feasibility.
Education: High school degree, GED, or Job Shop or Trade School background.
- Minimum ten (10) years’ experience, to include four (4) years’ experience in automotive electronics
- Normally will require experience as a class “A” machinist or sheet metal fabricator.
- “Hand Forming” experience is required.
- Proficient with electronics knowledge for PCB validation, testing and wiring harness built.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize the following equipment independently: drill press, lathe, mill, MIG and TIG welding equipment, and precision measuring equipment.
- Demonstrated blueprint reading skills.
- Must demonstrate exceptional problem solving and viable concept development skills.
- Must be able to demonstrate significant involvement in the development and implementation of an innovative concept (product or process).
- Knowledge of government and OEM specifications in area of expertise.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to successfully coordinate and complete multiple tasks within and across departments to meet established and changing deadlines.
- Strong communication skills: verbal and written.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Regularly bends, stoops, crouches, reaches and stands to access materials and machinery. Able to lift objects weighing up to 30 lbs. May require travel. Overtime may be required.
•Independently prioritizes the completion of tasks and resolution of issues to ensure compliance to program deliverables.
•Inspects components and related fixtures from vendors and production to ensure conformance to engineering schematics, standards, and specifications. Develops solutions to resolve issues of non-conformance.
•Supports critical design reviews when requested.
•Provides robust design methods to eliminate prior campaign failure modes. Where a campaign is initiated, provides technical leadership to resolve the issues.
•Follows all established policies, procedures, and rules as defined by Magna Seating (MS) Health and Safety systems, in compliance with OSHA, MIOSHA, EPA, MDEQ, and Magna Corporate.
•Performs preventative maintenance, pre-start inspections, and verification of equipment utilizing established procedures, as directed.
•Operates equipment on which certification, if required, or training has been achieved and obtained. Ensures proper housekeeping of work area and facility.
•If there is a reason to believe that any equipment or physical condition of the workplace is likely to endanger the employee or co-worker, or is in contravention of the Occupational safety and Health Act (OSHA) and Michigan’s Occupational Safety and Health Act (MIOSHA), notify management immediately.
•If there is reason to believe that any equipment, physical condition of the workplace, or assigned task is likely to jeopardize customer’s requirements, internal requirements, or the quality of test results and/or equipment build, notify management immediately.
•Supports Internal / External Audit efforts regarding ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 Certification for remote site location (Group Office).
•Supports the requirements as detailed in Standard Operating Procedure 8000 (Quality Management System).
