Psychiatry – Inpatient Medical Director Opportunity at Trinity Health

St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor has an excellent employment opportunity for a Board Certified Psychiatry physician to act as Medical Director in an Inpatient Psychiatric unit located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. 

The Medical Director will provide administrative and clinical leadership for a 24-bed inpatient psychiatric unit and Consult/Liaison team, managing and delivering excellent patient care, supervising and monitoring the quality of care, and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members. This physician will participate in and oversee the on-call coverage and weekend rounding schedules.

Medical Director Duties include:

• Coordinating the physician call schedule.
• Providing leadership in the assignment of cases to employed and RVU physicians.
• Providing leadership and support regarding physician documentation standards.
• Participating in the recruitment, orientation and mentoring of new inpatient unit physicians.
• Assuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation and hospital standards pertaining to documentation and billing practices.
• Recommending standards of practice for attending physicians (i.e. team conferences, treatment and discharge planning, LOS, hand-off communication), in collaboration with the IP Behavioral Services Service Delivery Leader.
• Representing the interests of the IP unit and C/L services in department planning.  
• Supervising, teaching and formally evaluating the educational and clinical performance of residents, house officers, and medical students as assigned.
• Interfacing with IHA Hospitalist around shared psychiatric care standards and expectations.
• Supervising, teaching and formally evaluating the educational and clinical performance of residents, house officers, and medical students as assigned.
• Serving as the physician liaison with the Department of Psychiatry.

The call schedule for this opportunity is one day of call per week, including overnight call; call is expected to be 1 in 5 shared among inpatient providers.  Weekend rounding is expected to be 1 in 5 with the ability to earn RVU payment.

Candidates with both administrative and consult liaison experience will be shown preference. However, all experienced Adult Psychiatric providers will be considered.
