The Division of Health Psychology at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is pleased to announce a position opening for a full time health psychologist (PhD or PsyD) to support a thriving headache specialty clinic in West Hartford, Connecticut. The Hartford HealthCare (HHC) Headache Center is part of the HHC Ayer Neuroscience Institute and is a fast-growing headache and facial pain specialty clinic with 3 locations positioned across Connecticut, with the main hub located in West Hartford, CT. The HHC Headache Center is dedicated to excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of people with headache disorders, to advancing current knowledge of headache through research, and to moving scientific advances into clinical practice.The psychologist will work in an integrated care setting to provide outpatient behavioral health services (group, individual, or family) to an adult population.
Clinicalduties include performing initial diagnostic assessments; conducting brief and evidence-based behavioral treatment for headache, as well as other medical and mental health comorbidities; collaborating and consulting with headache specialists (i.e., neurologists, physician assistants, and advanced nurse practitioners) and administrative staff; and effectively utilizing screening measures and assessment tools to track symptoms and treatment outcomes.
Administrative and otherduties include clinical documentation in a shared electronic medical record; program development and ongoing assessment of programmatic needs; giving quarterly educational presentations to the medical team; participation in Friday educational seminars; participation in weekly staff meetings and huddles; outreach to outside providers and community; and participation in a once per month after-hours multidisciplinary headache council meetings.
Training duties may include (if desired and if available) supervising a quarterly psychology post-doctoral fellow and providing education lectures and training to University of Connecticut medical residents.
Research duties will include supervising a research coordinator to maintain quality of research; acting as co-investigator on research projects; ensuring compliance with IRB requirements, federal and state regulations, and grant or contract parameters; collaborating with internal and external colleagues on publications; reviewing and evaluating research proposals; meeting with pharmaceutical company representatives; writing research manuscripts; and attending an annual national headache scientific meeting.
Candidates must be licensed for independent practice or license-eligible in the state of CT, have training and experience in medical settings (preferably with headache patients), have excellent written and verbal communication skills, have experience with clinical research, and be self-directed and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Completion of an APA-accredited predoctoral internship is required. The position will be administratively housed in the Division of Health Psychology at the Institute of Living, which will provide clinical and administrative support. Spanish language proficiency is valued.
