PUBLIC SAFETY TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST at Arlington County

Arlington County, named the No. 1 'Digital County' in the nation for its size to recognize innovative use of information and communications technology, is currently hiring a Public Safety Technology Specialist to provide technical expertise for IT infrastructure projects within the County's Public Safety Information Technology (PSIT) group. The PSIT group supports the technology infrastructure including maintenance and security of all technology systems for the county's public safety agencies which include the Police Department, Fire Department, Sheriff's Office, and Office of Public Safety Communications and Emergency Management. The PSIT group is comprised of Applications, Infrastructure, and Project Management teams who work on specialized projects that support public safety departments' continuously evolving IT needs within the county.

This Technology Specialist will be primarily responsible for partnering with the county's four public safety agencies by supporting their missions of safeguarding the citizens of Arlington County. This position will contribute technical expertise, implement and integrate technical systems and tools while safeguarding technical data and assets integral to critical operations.

Specific duties include:

• Installing and configuring server hardware and software in support of the Public Safety's business operations and infrastructure needs;
• Receiving and resolving problems requiring extensive analysis, application of multiple technical skills to support servers, desktops, mobile connectivity, network connectivity, or other associated user support areas;
• Scheduling, and coordinating major installation and upgrade projects by working directly with the partner public safety agencies to minimize disruptions;
• Monitoring and troubleshooting client networks, and connections to host systems, servers, and applications;
• Monitoring third party contracts and providing coordination with vendors, and contractors;
• Evaluating new or upgraded software, hardware, and peripherals to determine plans for refresh cycles; and
• Developing standard operating procedures in accordance with County-wide standards to ensure long-term requirements of systems operations and administration are included in overall systems planning.
