Work Week: PRN - as needed
Provide radiation therapy treatments and function as an essential member of the radiation oncology treatment team, in order to provide total quality care to patients. Reports to Director of Radiation Therapy. Must be a graduate of an accredited radiation therapy program, a registered Radiation Therapist by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT), and certified by the Texas Department of Health as a Medical Radiological Technologist (MRT). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Demonstrates comptentency to deliver a planned course of radiation therapy accurately and safely.. Uses appropriate machine settings to deliver treatment while monitoring the patient visually and aurally during treatment. Monitors treatment console during treatment. Takes appropriate verification images. Checks treatment plan and calculations prior to initial treatment. Reports any deviations in treatment plan to appropriate persons. 2. Documents daily treatment information accurately, legibly, and completely. 3. Assessments of the patient`s condition, needs, and side effects are made on a daily basis throughout the treatment course. Assesses the patient`s need for information and reassurance. Takes appropriate action to patient`s needs. 4. Recognizes the patient`s need for referral to other care providers such as social services, clergy, or nutritionist. 5. Selects appropriate immobilization and positioning aides for simulation and treatment. Fabricates immobilization devices and custom blocks. 6. Reviews patient treatment record and daily doses to ensure that treatment does not exceed prescribed dose or normal tissue tolerance. 7. Uses appropriate professional judgment to contact Radiation Oncologist regarding side effects, problem situations or when to withhold treatment until a physician is notified. 8. Verifies the patient has given written consent to procedures. 9. Provides accurate explanations and instructions to the patient, at an appropriate time and level the patient can understand. Addresses and documents patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. Is knowledgeable to provide instruction on proper skin care, diet and self-care procedures when needed. 10. Observes Quality Assurance standards by complying with the following: warm up and tests equipment following established procedures; reviews patient and treatment information prior to initiation of procedures on a daily basis; observes environment for any potential radiation hazards. 11. Promotes a positive, collaborative atmosphere with all members of the health care team, patient and family members. Communicates and conducts self in a professional and courteous manner. Demonstrates flexibility in providing services. 12. Demonstrates the componets of the I CARE values statement. 13. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. 14. Performs other duties as assigned. Educational Requirements. Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy program.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Clinical judgment and knowledge of radiation therapy theory, practices and safety.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technology in Radiation Therapy. Licensed by the Texas Department of Health as a Medical Radiological Technologist. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification. New graduates hired are allowed one year from start of employee to successfully pass American Registry of Radiological Technology in Radiation Therapy.
