JOB TITLE: Recovery Home Cook
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday
REPORTS TO: Program Director
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
In keeping with our organization’s tradition, we seek to enhance the quality of life of our residential program clients by providing high quality service in a cheerful, timely manner and by communicating, coordinating and cooperating with others to attain goals. The Cook is responsible for providing nourishing food to residents, under sanitary conditions as directed and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the organization and Department of Public Health regulations. Dinner and dessert menus are to be planned on a 90-day schedule but also must allow flexibility to adjust to availability of items. Cook prepares dinner and dessert to be served at 5:00 pm Mon-Fri and prepares food and supplies for self-serve Lunch, Mon-Fri. Prepares items on Friday for weekend self-serve meals.
Prepares regular meals following oral and written instructions, menu’s recipes, spreadsheets etc., with knowledge of kitchen equipment operation.
Maintains routine meal schedules and serving times.
Place weekly food order from supplier(s), including Greater Boston Food Bank shopping.
Maintains food inventory. Ensures orders are checked in and put away in an accurate and orderly manner.
Keeps food waste to a minimum.
Prepares foods for special parties or groups, and assists in the planning of these events in a cooperative manner.
Cleans and maintains the kitchen facility in a safe and sanitary manner including floors, walls, all equipment, dishes and utensils.
Maintains Temperature Logs for refrigerators and freezers.
Supervises the kitchen and dining areas during dinner and monitors residents with their chores in a fair and professional manner.
Performs dish washing of pots, pans and other designated items as needed.
Drive Residents to required meetings.
Other duties to be assigned by Program Director.
Ability to follow Department of Public Health Regulations and Standards.
Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
If in recovery from alcohol or other substances, must have two year of continuous sobriety.
Must meet Massachusetts CORI requirements.
90-day employee probationary period.
Random drug testing, or when indicated.
Must be a team player and work well in a challenging environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping. The employee must be able to lift and/or move heavy items such as boxes and cans.
Ability to perform work in a minimal supervision setting and follow a multi-task protocol.
ServeSafe Certification, CPR certification and Nasal Narcan training desirable.
