Refrigeration Design and Specification Engineer

Position Purpose & Summary
Refrigeration Design and Specification Engineer isresponsible for oversite of Cargill Protein (CP) industrial refrigerationsystem design and specification providing direction to multiple plant locationsto ensure consistent design standards. Is an expert in the design and function of industrial ammoniarefrigeration systems, industrial HAVC systems, and alternate coolingtechnologies. Works with third party experts and consultants to design newindustrial ammonia refrigeration systems and industrial HAVC systems. Isresponsible for writing and cataloging standards and specifications for allcomponents and materials for the industrial refrigeration and HVAC sytems.Works closely with technical safety team to ensure consistency in design and tocontinuously improve standards documentation. Acts as an expert resource toprocess design teams, technical safety teams and to plant engineers. Assists introubleshooting. Works with strategic sourcing on preferred vendor agreements.May be located at any Cargill Protein facility in NA. Travels frequently up to50%
35%- Design and Specification for new refrigeration and HVAC systems:Direct responsibility for system designs consistent with best practices forsafety and energy efficiency. Works with the Cargill process design team,consultants and equipment manufactures in the development of system designs andstandards. Works closely with system controls engineers. Maintains knowledge ofnew technologies and standards and disseminates this information asappropriate.
20% - Modification and redesign of existing refrigeration andHVAC systems:Works with Cargill process design engineers and local technical teams in theredesign of existing systems to bring them up to standards and improve safety and efficiency. Assists in the troubleshooting of existing systems and the determination of solutions.
15%- Writing and continuous improvement of specifications and standards pertainingto refrigeration and HVAC systems: Is responsible for creating and cataloging documentation for easeof access and broad use. Ultimately resulting in a complete library of designparameters, equipment, piping and vessel standards as well in installationmethods.
15%- Acts as a SME in support of Plant Engineers, Process Design engineers and theTechnical Safety Team: Works with processing engineers to ensureRefrigeration and HVAC systems for new builds meet requirements for safety,compliance and operations. Assists instartup and troubleshooting ofnew systems, Participates on PHA teams
10%- Acts as a SME in collaboration with Strategic Sourcing on preferred vendoragreements and major purchases: Works directly with strategic sourcing on RFPs for Refrigerationand HVAC systems. Contributes to the development of preferred vendor agreementsand standardization of equipment purchases.
5% -Regulatory Leadership: In conjunction with the technical safety teamprovides guidance andassistance for facilities for OSHA/EPA/Regulatory inspections and questions.Provides support assistance for facilities during release situations andresponses to analyze design and future improvements for continuous improvementand proactive prevention measures.
4 year degree in Engineering
Extensive industrial ammonia refrigeration design and operationalexperience - 7 years minimum
Proven leadership of technical teams through facilitation and influence
Professional verbal communication skills
Excellent technical writing skills
Demonstrated ability to manage and oversee multiple projects andprioritize actions.
Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite ofapplications. Experience in CMMS; PHAPro; AutoCAD
Ammonia refrigeration operations experience
Willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time
CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator), CRES (CertifiedRefrigeration Energy Specialist) or other approved Technical Certification.
OSHA experience in inspection processes
Hands on work experience with Refrigeration & HVAC equipment andprocesses
Understanding of industry practices for preventative and predictivemaintenance processes.
