The Registered Nurse delivers quality general and psychiatric nursing care to adult patients typically (18 and up) with psychiatric or emotional disorders, addictive disease disorders or related substance or chemical dependency problems, or those duly diagnosed with psychiatric and chemical dependency disorders, to adolescents (typically age 12 to 17) and children (ages 4 to 11) with psychiatric or emotional disorders and to geriatric patients (typically age 65 and up) with psychiatric or emotional disorders; Serves actively and constructively as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team, supporting the organization’s and adult, adolescent and child program philosophy of care; to ensure the safety and well-being of each patient.
Completes nursing assessment thoroughly and in a timely manner within facility guidelines. Assessment includes all required screenings and components.
Accurately documents on treatment plan illustrating patient progress or need for additional problem or intervention identification.
Communicates effectively with physicians and ensures orders are accurate and carried out accordingly.
Providing quality nursing care to meet identified patient outcomes
Carrying out assigned functions according to philosophy, goal and objectives of the hospital and program unit
Contributing as an active part of the treatment team
This opportunity is available to individuals who meet the following requirements:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.
One-year prior psychiatric experience in mental health nursing preferred.
Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
Must possess knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing processes, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management and CPR training.
- Ability to supervise staff in aspects of direct clinical care is required
Skills in clinical evaluation, decision-making, prioritizing and time management
Effective oral and written communication skills and knowledge of telephone etiquette is required
Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, supervisor and other hospital employees
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift & grasp
Successful completion Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) & CPR within 90 days of employment
